Gentlemen,
You guys can thank Ted Kennedy for the prices at CMP. Back in the mid-70's I ran DCM shoots. DCM gave you ammo, targets and rifles to shoot the course with. ALL FREE. Then came Mr Kennedy. He wanted the DCM shut down and the Dem's almost got the job done. They didn't get the votes needed to close the DCM BUT they got the funding from the US ARMY cut to ZERO. DCM had to change to stay alive. What they had to do was change into the CMP and had to fund the whole operation. Under the old DCM you could buy only 1 rifle in a lifetime at about 99 bucks. Well, CMP let you buy more then 1 rifle and had to keep raising the price to stay alive. You guys know that prices on almost anything has gone up, so the CMP had to raise their prices. Remember, CMP has done a great job in getting these Rifles into your hands. If you go to gun shows/gunshops you can see the higher prices on both the M1 Carbine/M1 Garand. We now have the problem that the Dem's might take the White House in '08. The 3 best things for us to do is Vote, join the NRA, yes but they are on our side and just might save us in '08, and last but in my opinion BUY AMERICAN from the CMP. They are out there for you guys so let's help support them. Stop all this noise about price increases that is going on everywhere. CMP gets you the real deal.
Just think about it.
Thanks again
Clancy

Just found them in March, and I ordered a Garand, ammo, and (waiting on) a carbine. What really makes me angry is to see a beat up rack grade M1 at the gun store being sold for some ridiculous amount to an unsuspecting buyer. I was almost one, until I was tipped off about the CMP. Otherwise, I might have paid $600-700 for a RG M1.

Buy them now or they'll be cut for scrap later.

Someone may still want to cut them up for scrap at a later date, once they're in closets, cabinets and safes.

That time may come, but we shouldn't leave ANY in a warehouse for easy pickings.

Just going by market pricing, CMP offerings are still a hell of a deal. They are not going to give away rifles and ammo so I don't know why you are blaming Democrats for a non-existent problem.

They just sold out 12,000 Inland Carbines in 2 weeks. If their prices were so bad and they the evil Democrats were to blame, how could that happen...

So I guess I need to say, thanks, Teddy!

Well, at least it's still around. Didn't know you ran DCM shoots, Clancy. Thanks for the background information regarding the prices....now, when people whine, we can tell them to thank Kennedy.

Strange how some loser like Teddy can continue to influence how things operate in America, and even worse is the fact the idiots that re-elect him. How many other killers have this kind of power over their constituants?

Teddy Kennedy's car has killed more people than all of my guns.

Has anyone tried his favorite cocktail? Its called the Chappaquidick (spelling?)
Thats one part Scotch and one part murky water.

I apologize for the rant.

Clancy, I remember you from the CMP forum.

I can't say the same thing about my guns, jspy. I own 3 homewreckers/heartbreakers!! Since April, I've bought 3 CMP rifles, 1 Garand, 1 1903 and 1 03A3, 2 cases of ammo and I'm waiting for my carbine! CMP has done right by me and I got 3 beauties so far. Orest has shown steadfastness and devotion to duty in the face of the enemy and should be commended!

I hold my CMP rifles in my hands and realize that they were once used to kill enemies of freedom and of America. God willing they won't have to again, but like me, they'll be ready!

The Garands the CMP will offer in October will be a new variation called CMP Select Grade. They will be mix-masters, assembled from parts and I believe they will feature new barrels and new CMP stocks. You can be pretty well be sure to get an excellent shooter but traditional collectors will probably not be too interested. They will probably be a hot item on the private market when they eventually make their way there. I think I read the price will be around 1,000.

There is also a new boat-load of M1's from Greece that will be transfered to CMP. So next year, they should have plenty of grades of M1's available.

You don't hear me complaining.
I have several rifles from CMP, and I have no complaints about any of them (not price, not quality, not anything), well I do complain that I don't have more money:neener:

In my haste to slam Teddy, I forgot about the issue at hand. I do indeed support the CMP as the proud owner of 3 Garands and could only wish to know the complete history of each of them. Unfortunately I missed out on the Carbine sale as of now, but maybe in the future. Still looking for an IH to complete my Garand collection.

You didn't miss out completely. Service Grade Inlands are sold out but the other manufactures will go on sale in September but I anticipate they will all be sold the day the start accepting orders or shortly there-after. Basically, if you want one, you have to keep monitoring the CMP sales page and see what day they will start accepting orders, then time your order to arrive that day.

They should also have an offering of Rack Grade carbines in 08. I'll bet they sell-out just as fast...

Just a BTW, By their charter, CMP has to sell their weapons at what is considered market value. They do a remarkable job to come in consistently on the low end but you always have people who think they should be cheaper.

I have two CMP Garands, both bought this year and likely my only two. I think the CMP is great; I'm a satisfied customer.

As to their prices, I figure if they sold them much cheaper some of you guys who buy a dozen at a time would get them all and there would be none left for guys like me.:D

As to good old uncle Teddy, what kind of people live in Massachusetts that keep sending that sleezeball back to Washington every election? Why does he even have any credibility any more? (Not to be confused with uncle Ted "The Nuge", he's a nut but he's a good guy.)

To be honest, I used to wonder the same ting but came to the conclusion that I am no one to question the people of of entire State in our Union.

I realized my opinion was being formed by the media I made available to myself. I realized I never received any unbiased information about Kennedy or the Democratic party from Fox, Rush or Hannity, which I used to watch/listen to daily. I realized that this was not a good position to be in so I tried to include as much unbiased and even biased media opinions before I made up my mind.

My conclusion; both parties are Globalists first, Americans second and we need a major change in this country. I thought I was a Republican but they have been in power for the last six years and look at was as happened!

I went to the Colorado Gun Collectors Association show in Denver yesterday. In particular I was looking for com-bloc guns (only saw a couple... out of 950 tables!) and Garands. I saw fewer than a dozen Garands, and the cheapest one was $695. It had mis-matched numbers and new furniture. A good shooter, but not what collectors are looking for. I think there were only 2 others under $1k. From what I've seen $500-$600 for a "rack grade" might not be a bad deal.

As far as a boat load from Greece, I just heard the other day that the Greek guns are all gone. We'll have to wait and see if our "ship comes in".

There is a entire new boat load that has not yet been released to CMP/ They will be back for sale in 08. :D
