Carbine vs Mid-length AR

After the extractor problems I've had with my Carbine, I'd say the mid length or rifle. The carbines need a stronger extractor spring and possibly upgraded bolts and buffers.

I still manage to do that with my Middy sometimes. I am nursing a nice FSB shaped mark right now from my shooting over the weekend. I like a very long grip on the gun, I have gotten to the point where a 10 inch rail is just about the minimum for me.

Same here....my rifle (below) has a 10" rail, and I basically hold it right at the front with my index finger ever so slightly curling around the front of the rail. This one is carbine length gas, but low pro gas block to solve that problem...although that rail with the minimal ladder protectors can still get a little toasty after a high round count 3 Gun stage....but not yet to the extent I'd need a glove.

Kwanger - is that the Nordic industries brake? I have a Nordic brake waiting to be installed on something. How do you like it?

Yes - that is the little Nordic Tactical brake. I like it very much - muzzle rise is zero (actually, it is even a hair down now, if anything); and recoil substantially reduced. With my heavier buffer and stiffer buffer spring, the setup goes quite some way to taming the carbine length gas recoil impulse (although it'll never be as good as a middy). Very impressed with the brake for the price. The other side benefit of this particular one is that it is not as loud as some (although still noticeably louder than a flash hider of course).
