Carcano carbine

I have an Austrian M95 mannlicher. They imported loads of them in the early 2000s, and even then, the supply of ammo was not “copious,” but it’s now quite expensive and the clips fetch $5-15 apiece. I wish somebody would reproduce vintage en bloc clips for the Mannlichers, Carcanos, Berthiers, but I’m not holding my breath.

The clips were much cheaper a few months ago. Now with the big influx of new owners the price has gone up

Numerich was listing steel "reproduction" Carcano clips just before I posted here at less than $7.

Several places had 4 @ about $50.

Thanks for that.. For some damn reason I have this mental block maybe aaaaaaaaa phobia and always look at Numerich last.. That is nice to see they are being made.... and thats a pretty nice price..

The reproduction Carcano en bloc clips don't have a great reputation, let's hope the Numrich ones are the exception.

Has anyone been able to find 6.5mm Carcano ammo for sale? I am still coming up short.

No, and I check AmmoSeek just about every day. Steinel will take your order, but it's an automatic backorder and their website advises delays of up to six months. I suspect what they do is accumulate orders for each caliber and then make a batch when it's worth doing so to fulfill the backorders for that caliber.

Thanks, I looked at the Steinel offerings and am not yet ready to pull the trigger on $1.60-1.70 per round plus shipping to arrive who knows when. It's also odd that their 160 gr cast lead load, almost identical to the Italian military 162 gr jacketed load, won't stabilize in carbines. I guess the gain twist rifling is too much for the gas-checked lead bullets, otherwise I would have loved to get some of that for a load pretty close to original ballistics.

What problems have you encountered with them???

Yeah, this same thing happen the last couple shortage disasters, the Carcano ammo dried up. From a few things I heard was that PPU will do those odd ball ammos.. (Hey sorry if that offends but it is odd ball stuff :) ) In one a year or twice a year batches and then its sold out. Just a lesson for the future order those rounds in 500 or 1k blocks and just not worry.

I do think one thing in our favor of having them making a bigger amount this time is that there has been so many Carcano carbines for sale this year. Alot of new folks out there looking for Carcano ammo.

Not to be provocative but no one wanted or even looked at those darn Carcano folding bayonet carbines 5 years ago.

Some carbines are cut-down long rifles, where they lose the muzzle-end rifling, so I suppose they might just be saying that to cover all those bases.

.

Its not so much the weight of the round. The trouble with the Carcano is that there are many minor variances in the barrel sizes.. To really get a proper shooting rifle you must find about the size of your rifle and then figure out the bullets that is best in it..

This guy here is a bit long and dry but it really helps with what you need to do.

Now if you really want to speak Carcano.. Go to this guys channel and he has alot of videos on shooting & accurizing various Carcanos. He really knows alot and worth watching. Also he is fairly meticulous about showing you the various steps he takes.

Has anyone here experimented with that 160gr Steinel ammo? Mine is not a cut down rifle (I don’t think any of the cavalry carbines are, only some of the T.S. ones). If I thought the ammo would work then I’d get some.

I think we're all waiting for you to get some and report back to us. :D

(actually, I've got some on order so maybe in six months or so, we'll find out)
