I am trying to identify a rifle. It has a Mannlicher action. It is carbine length with the cleaning rod underneath the barrel. Top of the chamber has Terni stamped on the top. On the left side of the stock is a crown marking in a rectangle and the letter A with 40 below it. "AK" is stamped under the crown markings. Serial number is 4 digits.

A highly under rated rifle, a friend has one just like it.Raise your rear sight up and forward and you will find the combat(200 m)sights underneath.

RC and JB thanks for the info! Anyone know what the crown marking is? If it is produced when I think it was, 38 to 40, then to me it is unlikely Italy would have put a crown marking on it.

And JB I agree. It feels so light and natural sighting in with it.

The crown is an Italian mark used from 1923 - 1951, but the photo is too poor to make it all out.
Italian Crown + PSF = Preliminary Smokeless proof.
Italian crown + Finito = Final Proof.

Seeing as how the crown is on the stock and not the receiver or barrel, it is probably not a proof mark. Just an Italian acceptance mark of the completed rifle.

Italy was a kingdom up until May 1946. The king, Victor Emmanuel III, as in most parliamentary governments (including England) had no real power. Mussolini, while the dictator, was the prime minister.
