Carry a reload?

Why yes, I do carry a reload:eek: . If I'm carring an automatic I have at least one spare magazine on my person and one in my vehicle (most of the time). If I'm carring a revolver I carry a speed strip in my pocket (summer and winter) and a speed loader in my jacket pocket (winter). I also keep spare rounds (speed strip or loader) in my vehicle. If you carry an automatic a spare magazine is a must (ie: bad mag., malfunction, etc.:banghead: ). It also depends on how much ammo your weapon holds, Sig 229=13 rounds:p , Kahr P40=6 rounds:D , S&W M-60=5 rounds:eek: . Would you want to have only 5 rounds (S&W M-60 that's what's in your gun) if you needed to use weapon:what: . Don't let Murphy mess up your plans by not having bullets when you need them;) .

jeepmor,

That's the point I made earlier in the thread but you and I seem to be the only ones in agreement. Of course anyone with jeep in their name has to have a lot of common sense. Myself, I drive an XJ.

more fun fact's about SOP-9

The often reported 3 shots at 3 feet in 3 seconds. Let's exaimine that. It is taken from the NYPD SOP-9 a report generated from data durcing 1970-1979.

These are the distanced in which the officer DIED.
Contact to 3 feet ... 34%
3 feet to 6 feet ...... 47%
6 feet to 15 feet ..... 9%

These are the distances in which the officer survived:
Contact to 10 feet ... 51%
10 feet to 20 feet .... 24%

Of those encounters service revolvers where used in 60% of them and smaller revolvers used in 35%. Note the lack of hi-capacity gun's this easily explains the low round count.

A lot of people talk about a high precentage's of gun fight's take place in low light. Well SOP-9 considered low light from 6pm to 6am. There is no distinction drawn as to acutall lighting conditions.

So not only is the 3 shot's at 3 feet in 3 seconds not proved by the data. It is actually not even provided by the data. For cases in which officers live.

Futher combined with the fact that these numbers are from a bygone era. I purpose the data is invalid in a modern setting.

SACP, I'd prefer "modernized, up-teched and up-armed Patton Lite."

:D :D :D

How many of us are "Rule of Two" subscribers here?

I am for sure. I carry spare mags, spare batteries for my flashlight (Lithium batteries are pretty small) a spare gun when I can, a knife and OC. That's when I'm not on duty.

Good at least i'm not the only one :)

I usually don't carry a spare. If I do it is in a jacket pocket. SIG 239 8 shots should be enough. I plan on buying some 10 rd mags for spares. Just not done it yet.
I don't carry a spare mag because I feel the CCW is like a fire extinguisher: Purpose is to nip a problem before it gets out of control, escape with my life, not fight a 4-alarm house fire.

And I hope I never need to use it.

With my 1911, I will carry 1 extra mag & my snubbie.

If only packing my snubbie, I usually carry a speed strip with 5 rounds.

Why 5 rounds?
1. My snubbie only has 5 chambers. One full reload.
2. I reload 5 rounds faster when only 5 rounds are on the strip. If I put 6 rounds on the strip, I need to be fussier about how I grasp the strip to reload the first round. IOW, I am less likely to fat-finger a SS with 5 rounds vs 6 rounds.

If I don't have a spare magazine, I feel as "naked" as if I'm unarmed.

I carry two spare mags when carrying a single stack (which is a 1911 [99% of the time] or an HK P7), but usually just one spare with a Hi-Power.
I have carried three spares with the 1911 before, with the third going in my strong side front pocket- just in case I can't get to my weak side (lying on that side, arm injury, etc).

I carry a spare mag for my pocket gun (Kahr) also.

When I carry a semi, I carry a spare mag. When I carry a revo, I generally don't carry extra ammo.

Most days, I'm carrying a 45ACP revo.

I do the reverse. When I carry a semi, I don't have extra ammo; when I carry a revolver, I have an extra speed strip on me.
