My NC permit has expired. I have a AZ permit as an out of state resident.

Anyone know if NC will let a NC resident carry on another state's permit, or do I need to take the class and pay the outrageous fee again?

If you'll look at the map on that website, the states in yellow only honor resident permits. My state of Colorado would not honor your AZ non-resident permit, but NC does. I would do a little more checking into this, rather than take quick advice via the internet, if I were you.

Thanks Johnny. I am asking if a NC resident can carry in NC on another state's permit. Check google, you can pull up NC statutes, and this is not addressed in them. I was asking if anyone knew about it.

You are always on shaky ground when carrying on an out of state permit in your resident state. A bit like a DL. A resident (new) will need to get a resident DL at some point. There is usually a grace period.

Contact your resident LEO’s / DPS and speak to them. I doubt you will get the answer you want.

A local sheriff deputy informed that it was technically legal, while a local APD officer told me it was a easy way to get a free trip to the county jail. I guess spending $200 is cheaper then paying a lawyer to fight any charges. Thanks for the input

It is NOT legal. Once residency is established in N.C., permits from other states are null and void. This has been the AG's ruling in the past from the beginning of reciprocity. By the way, I'm retired LEO and the last person in the world you need to ask about gun laws is a cop.:)

So you will be able to provide citations to these AG's rulings or do we just take your word for it?

My mistake. I had forgotten about the new law Dec. 1 which made all states reciprocal with N.C. Purchasing a handgun by a N.C. resident using a non-resident CHL does not appear to be lawful at this time.

yeah, not too many cops seem well versed on gun laws, but they'll be the ones charging you with a crime and taking you down to the pokey, so their input is needed.

Respectfully, no. I don't live my life according to what local police thinks might be illegal. I live my life according to what the statutes say is illegal or not.
