Carry problem-SOLVED!

These guns are almost perfect for carry; they weigh under 20 oz. LOADED, (the one is a 7 shot .38+p marked and the other a 5 shot .44spl) are smooth as a bar of butter, have a nice 7-8 pound DAO trigger, and have a 2.5" barrel to get a little more velocity and accuracy than a 1 7/8 one. The only down side is they are L frame, albeit a SMALL L frame! I carry the .38 with 158 grain LSWCHP remington +p which give me about 900fps at 15 feet(890) . The .44spl gets a little more with Hornady 180grain XTP and a whole lot more with Corbon 160 or the old Triton ammo (just sub sonic-1050fps)and about the same with Blazer Gold Dot 200grain .
Anyway this is about how I found a solution to carry one or both of these blasters whenever I feel the need to go armed with a jogging or sweat suit or anywhere without strapping on a huge L-frame holster but not rattling in a pocket full of lint. They are called Clipdraws and are nicely engineered.!

Not sure how long you have used these - do keep us updated if you will.

I know you have had training, and continue to - so how are these as far affecting handling, or "being sharp" ?

Another tool in the toolbox as they say...I respect hearing your experiences and thoughts.

I too like that .44spl ctg, just does not seem get the recognition it should IMO.

I had the .44 for several years, and carried it in wind breaker and sweat pants pockets, it is on my CCW Ca. card. In a holster I'd rather have my .45acp Officers' mode(on my CCW card)l- it's smaller with 7 shots! But this thing is good for camping when you gotta "go" ect.!
I've only had the .38 for almost a year but I like it alot and it is accurate. Too much hassle to put another gun on my CCW as you have to "qualify":rolleyes: and do paper work-best not to cause waves here, I've allready got 4 guns on the card and that is much more than most folks here! You have to have the stinkin serial number! You better not use it with out haveing it "listed":banghead:
The clips do nothing to hadling, you never know they are there. They hold the gun in the waist band or rear pocket very well at a good heightIf I knew I was going into a fight I'd have my P-14(also on CCW) in a kydex rig on a gun belt with extra mags. But going to store,beach or getting out of a sleeping bag and not wearing a suitable belt; these are the ticket! I was using a Colt Agent .38 for this, (also on my CCW) but it was always in a pocket or a shoulder rig or something to hassle with.:)
 
Thank You sir, I respect your "experiences".

The stocks ...<brain-fade...starts with the letter "B"> that are designed to "clip" I personally did not like, some ladies complained 1) did not fit their antatomy , 2) recoil problems as the stocks did not fit - or "fit quite right".

Everyone is different in body type, settings they carry, mode of dress, jurisdictions and such - this "Clipdraw" is something I am going to suggest to a person or two.

Don't know of anyone that's ever been busted on it though (the ankle holster law). The law is vauge and says This Code section shall not permit, outside of his or her home, motor vehicle, or place of business, the concealed carrying of a pistol, revolver, or concealable firearm by any person unless that person has on his or her person a valid license issued under Code Section 16-11-129 and the pistol, revolver, or firearm may only be carried in a shoulder holster, waist belt holster, any other holster, hipgrip, or any other similar device, in which event the weapon may be concealed by the person´s clothing, or a handbag, purse, attache case, briefcase, or other closed container. Carrying on the person in a concealed manner other than as provided in this subsection shall not be permitted and shall be a violation of this Code section.

I'm guessing there won't be much of a problem unless you're caught going "Mexican".

I know a few cops and I'll ask them would they really do something if they stopped a permit holder who had a gun in a jacket pocket. (we're assuming that this permit holder hasn't done something else unlawful)
 
Ankle holsters and the clips aren't a problem. Form the law previously posted:

"any other holster, hipgrip."

Any other holster would cover ankle holsters, and hipgrip is the actual name of an equivalent product to the clip, the "Barami Hipgrip."

Am I missing something?
 
i have a chief's special with the clipdraw installed. i often wear it tucked into basketball shorts. too keep the gun from weighing down the shorts if the drawstring loosens, i wear a pair of suspenders under my t shirt.
 
Yes, the Clipdraw is legal in Ga. In my days working for a gunstore there previosly we sold them and the owner got it verified. They do indeed count as a "holster". As an earlier poster's reference to the state code shows the law is basically written to prohibit unsecured carry. Such as where the pistol is bouncing around in a pocket, tucked unsecured in a waistband, etc. and prevent the accidental discharge or lost/dropped firearm that could occur as result of such unsafe carry.
 
Those look like a slick pair of personal defenders. I do hate however the "sproing" when the metal clip equipped revolver I shot went bang! :)

As for the Georgia holster law and the charging of violators... about 22 years ago in Pulaski County GA I was in court for several cases when a case came up of pocket carry. A Deputy had charged a man for violating the holster law by carrying a little RG44 .22 revolver in his pocket without a holster. He did have and was carrying his GA Firearms License. The judge asked the deputy why he brought the charge if the violator had his license and the deputy told him about the "holster" provisions. The court took the revolver and found him guilty. He had to pay a fine.

After court I asked the deputy about it and was told it was all he could get him for at the time. The gentleman in question had a bit of a history in the county as a small time gambler and grass peddler. The judge was well aware of the defendants history (so was I :D) and was quite happy to find out the technicalities of the GA firearms law in regard to carry.

It has happened but I would not write someone up for it as long as there were no extinuating circumstances.

I also have owned and liked the Barami Hip Grip. I had one attached to a little Square Butt 3" Chiefs special with a Bobbed hammer and Tyler T-Grip. Holsters for 3" "J's" were hard to find in Middle Georgia. That slick little rig was just the answer for about town carry. Georgia legal too! :)

I will admit up front to being out of date. I retired from law enforcement in Georgia after 25 years in 1995. But I will give you my opinion.
So long as anyone was carrying in a safe manner I would not have turned my chicken loose to mess on their day. If a deputy made one of those "all I can get him with" cases in the situation the gentleman described then the deputy needs corrective education applied by his boss. I carry in a pocket. I have for over 30 years. As a result of wearing holes in my pockets and feeling that little cold barrel on my leg...not to mention anxious moments spent wondering if it was going to drop out...I began going to Wally*World and buying 'iron on' pocket repair kits. They look like the bottom of a pocket and you slide them up over the original pocket and sew them in place. A couple of extra stitches to keep the weapon in the proper attitude and they ride like they were born there. Now, that's a "device" just as much as a $100 holster. If it was legal for me then...and it was, ( I knew a Superior Court Judge who looked at my pockets and started carrying his that way while in court), then it's legal for any holder of a "Pistol Toters" license, or CCP if you'd rather. If the person the writer mentioned was a local purveyor of wacky weed then the Deputy should have gone to the Probate Judge and had the permit cancelled instead of making a shaky case with chicken poop written all over it.:eek:

These "all I could get him for" guys are really saying, "He's innocent, but I got him anyway."
 
I tend to agree that the case was Bull$#!+ but it survived the judge and was ajudicated. I also know that small town politics as well as "accepted procedures" were the rule when it came to the local S.O.s. I lost count of the cases that were Nol Prossed when the Sheriff got a hold of'em. My county Sheriff (south of Pulaski) had friends every where and they all seem to be drinking buddies and or hunting/fishing buddies. Definatly two levels of LE back then. The sheriff's (chief's/Commisioner's) friends and the rest of the county. :(

I hope to move back soon and get back into local LE part time. I hope it has changed a little.

I still think those revolvers are slick pocket medicine. (with a holster of course in GA!) :D

Those grips are called Barami Grippers and have been around a long time. I too like your lady friends, don't like the ergonomics(or looks:barf: ) of them!
No sound of 'sproing" that I can hear!:D
 
the 296 is a great find in california. i've been looking for one recently and have never located one. the only ones i saw for sale were when they were in production. same with the 242.

What model .38/.357 is that? It appears to be a Smith, but the only 7 shot Airweight is the 386 and that has adj. sights and an exposed hammer?
 
Hey Gordon, on your recommendation I bought a clipdraw for my 3" S&W 66. Got it today and in the early going, I'm very impressed. It's really nice being able to conceal my revolver without having to use a holster.
