I have no dog, but if I did, I would carry while walking it. I carry whenever legal to do so. Period.

Luckily, In Texas you can shoot coyotes and other 4 legged vermin when necessary. I don't walk my dogs because I have a big yard, but my FIL does and he is a lot more concerned about the 2 legged kind. Several years ago I walked his dog for him because he had a leg injury. I carried all the time, because the dog didn't.:neener:
Yep and even our Gov. Carries and shots Yotes. So I carry when I mow, preach and and time I am awake.

Well, that cited code law certainly seems to say different than your assertion in post #30. nevermind

We also have a law that provides that we can kill another human being in certain circumstances. Whether or not we'll spend the rest of our lives in prison is up to the prosecutor and jury. Wanna be a test case? Nevermind.

I have an almost-related question....

I'm actually seriously asking are there 'doggy ear-muffs' or plugs? Not for daily walks obviously, but for those weekend trips to the outdoor range or pit. I know I have a regrettable amount of hearing damage already, though mostly from hot rods and rock shows. I've met many 4-legged friends that aren't gun-shy in the least, but are we slowly deafening them each time we spend an afternoon shooting?

There are plenty of instances of a pit bull coming out of nowhere and attacking an innocent person and/or their dogs while walking down the sidewalk.

I read another local instance today.

Yes, I carry every day, everywhere I may legally do so. To do otherwise seems foolish to me.

Why wouldn't you? If you believe you need to carry a gun to defend yourself at all, why would you believe walking your dog makes you safe from attack?

couldn't find any links but it seems that dog ear protection is quite real.

on topic I allways bring my mosin 91/30 with me whin I take the dogs for walks

Would you carry while grocery shopping? Or going out to eat? Or driving to work?

I don't see the point in the question. Unless you're "extreme dog walking", and have a high chance of falling on your gun, or it beng dropped, I don't understand why you wouldn't.

When I walk my little boy and I do mean little he is 7 pound cute male Chihuahua, several times we have been suprised by other dogs sometimes Pit Bulls. So far the dogs have obeyed my commands of backing down or are just playful. However I do carry when he and I do go out. I just pray that I never every have to use it. God Bless :)

I think everyone is missing the point of this thread.
I prefer not to carry and let my dog walk on his own two legs. Then again, I have an 80lb german shepherd mix so he's pretty hard to carry no matter how you look at it. Besides carrying your dog makes it difficult to get to your handgun when you need it.:neener:

My last dog died about a year ago with no plans of ever owning another so no longer need to walk one. Now with that said I get dressed in the morning and gun goes on, stays till I go to bed at night. It makes no difference what I'm doing during the day be it staying home on a week end and watching TV to running my business the rest of the week. I've done this now for better than 30 years and feel naked without it though the gun has gotten lighter through the years.

NAVY LCDR - "I make the dog carry the gun...."

What I want to know is does your pooch use the Weaver Stance, or Isosceles? Or does he just shoot one-pawed?? ;)

This thread reminds me of that Bob Dylan tune "Rainy Day Woman".

Do Ya carry when you're walking on the street?
Do Ya carry you when you're trying to keep your seat?
Do Ya carry you when your walking in the fog?
Do Ya carry you when your walking with your dog
But you should not feel so all alone
Cause everyone should carry unless they're stoned....
