Carrying while wearing recreational clothes

I clip my IWB stoner 3 way holster onto my gym shorts to carry all the time, just tie the string on them. never fallen, never had a problem, and I can run all i want. No biggie.

superflanker, what holster were you using to run 6 miles? Smartcarry, or something else?

I went for a walk last night in t-shirt and athletic shorts with hip pockets. My 2" Model 36 really weighed those shorts down, but they stayed up. I carried in my right pocket in a Desantis Nemesis. After returning home, I went to remove my gun from the holster. Holster and all came out of the pocket. The holster fell off, but it's definitely something to be concerned about. This doesn't happen with regular pants.

I refuse to buy or carry any self-defense gun smaller than a J frame Smith, and that would just about have my shorts around my ankles inside of ten feet.. I'm willing to take the chance 1-1 1/2 hours a day.

I agree with you on the J frame being too heavy for sweatpants or gym shorts. This is why I'm considering getting a LCP.

The Smartcarry website instruction page says it's mean to be worn basically at 11-1 oclock. Does it work well if worn at 3 like a normal holster? I am thinking about getting one for running and biking, but the up and down movement of my legs, especially while biking, makes it seem that the holster being worn directly in front of me would be awkward feeling and more difficult to draw from.

Riding a bike with the SmartCarry is definitely "interesting" in the intended position. If it's off to the side (3:00) you'll print something fierce in bike shorts. If you wear something a little baggier then you can probably get away with it but I wouldn't want to fall on my gun on the point of my hip.

The best thing I found was dedicating a pocket of my Camelbak MULE to the gun & spare mag.
