I have a steel frame ASM 1851 Navy in .44 caliber that I would love to do a cartridge conversion on. It’s not that I just want a cartridge conversion, but that I find myself not shooting it much because it is a black powder revolver. I would get so much more use from it if it were converted to a cartridge revolver.

Apparently they don’t offer a conversion kit specific to this gun, so how difficult would it be to “adapt” an existing conversion to fit this revolver? I am not a gunsmith or a machinist, so fine detail work beyond Dremel and file are beyond my capabilities. I’m not opposed to sending to a reputable smith to have work done. I just don’t know where to start.

Any help would be appreciated.

Edit-sorry, I posted in the wrong forum. Mod, please move to the appropriate location.

I have a conversion cylinder for a Uberti Remington 1861. I don't know for sure, but I think the conversion cylinders are specific to the model and IIRC, even to the maker, i.e., a conversion for a Uberti won't fit a Pietta.

I'm a glass half empty guy, so I also think you might have trouble finding a smith to do the work. And it you did, it would be spendy.
