I have a very stupid question. I check my cartridges through a cartridge guage. All the videos i've seen the cartridge does not pass through the guage completely.

Mine will if I give the round a little push.

Is this a problem? :(

I have not run into any issues to date firing my reloads but I thought this seemed odd.

.45 ACP is a nearly straight case.

If the gage you have doesn't have an internal headspace step in it, there is nothing to stop them from going on through.

That's not really a "cartridge gauge". It's a diameter gauge, which only shows you the case isn't too big to fit in the chamber. A true cartridge gauge also measures the case length and overall length of the case.

For what you're describing, a piece of tubing the right size would suffice.........

Hope this helps.

Thanks

I will double check what I have when I get home and perhaps post a picture. As long as I don't have to worry about the round passing through.

Some .45 acp gauges are made to check for burrs on the case rims. It sounds like you may have one of those.

Hope this helps.

Ok I got back home and double checked. I have a case length gauge. Even factory rounds pass right through it

It is for case length and burrs in the rim. I bought the wrong type if guage but it should still get the job done

Thanks for the help

The best gauge for semi-auto ammo is the barrel of your pistol. Remove the barrel and do the plunk test to check your rounds...

That gauge is one of those things I don't plan on purchasing in the near future. When I started reloading they were not available at my LGS so I used my pistol's barrel. Then I realized that round after round they chambered perfectly and decided that my Lee Factory Crimp die was trustworthy. From then on I haven't checked them anymore and they keep feeding flawlessly.

Great invention, the FCD. Whenever I switch to a progressive, it'll find its place in there, too.

I asked Wilson why they don't have a case gage for 30 carbine that works like a 9MM gage---they said they saw no reason for one ????????????
