Awhile back I inherited some items amoung which was a bag of cartridges & shells. I've managed to ID all but these two & thought to check with the forum.
Cartridge: #1
Overall Cartridge Length: 79.45 mm
Brass length: 57.63 mm
Dia @ base: 12 mm
Diameter @ Shoulder: 10.94 mm
Diameter @ neck: 8.56 mm
Projectile dia: 7.85 mm
No discernible marks on base.
Cartridges loaded on stripper clips 5 rounds per clip.
Projectiles are FMJ
Primers are crimped military style

Cartridge: #2
Overall Cartridge Length: 70.64 mm
Brass length: 51.11 mm
Dia @ base: 11.89 mm
Diameter @ Shoulder: 11.46 mm
Diameter @ neck: 8.48 mm
Projectile dia: 7.78 mm
Marks on base: WRA, 65 & a + enclosed in a circle.
Projectiles are JSP

My guess is #1 is a 7.92x57 and #2 is a 7.62x51

8mm mauser and 308

Hey 1911JAS, thanks much. With the loan of a friend's case gauge I just confirmed #2 as 7.62 X 51. I don't know anyone with an 8mm Mauser so will have to wait a bit.

You can access the same cartridge charts on-line that are in the book "Cartridges of the World". I have found it to be a pretty valuable reference for a collector.
