It APPEARS to be a .30 Mauser round loaded with an unusual bullet (gallery round?); the case length is right for .30 Mauser, and I don't think FN would have been loading 7.62 Tokarev in 1947, so?
Thanks for the replies so far. A .30 Mauser is highly unlikely because its case length is only 25 mm instead of approximately 33 mm. The 8x33 comes pretty close to that, but its primer isn't that big. Could it be a .357 Automag made from a case different than a .30-06 or a .308 Winchester?
