Cartridge Identification

I was hiking in the hills of S. Cal. last weekend and found an expended cartridge. It appears to be a steel case, on the bottom it says F A 42, what caliber is this. The cartridge is necked. Sorry I do not know how to post pictures.

Frankford Arsenal 1942, cal .30 US, commercially known as the .30/06. Compare it to a round of .30/06 in a store and see if that fits.
