Case and cartridge dimensions?

I searched with no luck, so here is my question:

Does anyone have a website that lists the dimensions for different calibers as to the case trim length and the cartridge overall lengths?

I am checking to see which handgun calibers are legal in my state. I found one website that listed dimensions, but it is a gamers site for I don't remember what game, but wanted to rely on something more gun-related.

What state do you live in? As far as I know all handgun calibers are legal in all fifty states.

Um...not many states allow .25ACP for big game hunting. In fact, most have fairly specific requirements, though not always are they logical.

I cannot seem to find an on-line source for cartridge dimensions (at least on with "trim-to" lengths) listed, but I know two sources for printed versions of that information:

Unless they have changed the law, PA allows any center fire cartridge over .22 for deer hunting, so the .25 ACP is legal. The normal gun for that caliber is not, though, as the state also bans semi-auto guns for deer hunting. But one of those Belgian revolvers in .25ACP would be legal.

I don't remember ever seeing cartridges legal for hunting based on dimensions other than caliber. NY used to be any centerfire but changed it to 9mm minimum with 4" barrel. I hope you give more thought to this than "minimum". The general concensis is that any one of the following is suitable for deer; 357mag,41mag, 44mag, 45 colt with hot load, 10mm auto. Lesser cartridges fall into the stunt catagory.

Here is how ND outlines weapon choice:

Deer Gun Season - Centerfire rifles of .22 to .49 caliber and muzzleloading rifles of .45 caliber or larger are legal for deer. Centerfire rifles of .50 caliber or larger using smokeless powder are prohibited. Rifles must have a minimum barrel length of 16 inches. Rifled slugs of 20 gauge or larger are legal for shotguns. Minimum barrel length of shotguns is 18 inches. Handgun (pistol or revolver or single shot) cartridge cases under .40 caliber must be at least 1.285 inches in length and bullets must be at least .257 inches in diameter. Handgun cartridge cases of .40 caliber or larger must be at least .992 inches in length. Muzzleloading handguns must be .50 caliber or larger. In addition, any centerfire handgun designed to fire a legal rifle cartridge shall be legal, except .38 S&W Special and 9mm Luger. All legal bow equipment as listed earlier in the deer bow season section shall be legal during the deer gun season. Fully automatic weapons, full metal jacketed bullets, or altered projectiles are prohibited.

I guess they figure that way is easier than listing all the cartridges.

I think I will probably use .357 mag.
