Can anyone tell me why I am having a problem crimping the Hornady 45-70 cases vs the Remington 45-70's? I know there is a difference in case length. I have taken that into consideration. I am using a RCBS manual reloader with RCBS 45-70 Die set. The Remington's crimp fine when adjusting the seating/crimping die properly. However, after adjusting the die for the difference in length, the Hornady's will not crimp. Any suggestions? I am desperate.

First off have in uniform case length is paramount for proper crimping. Next, the that variance in mfgr's case mouth is not uniform between them so hence the other possiblity for crimping problems.

Measure the case mouth with a loaded round of each MFG. This ought to provide some insight.

I hope that you are keeping the various brands of brass seperate and working up loads for each brand?

I agree with the uniform case length aspect. Also, if one brand of brass is new and the other having been previously fired, it can effect sizing and crimp. Just a thought.
