here is the odd thing. been going through my saved brass, just fired factory ammo. several brands. noticed on all of them the following issue.

in the same spot on all fired cases is a short cut on the case, super thin like a razor blade on a piece of plasic. barely feel it on most of htem, but its parallel with the case head about 3/8" below the shoulder.

the odd thing is, i have one box of factory ammunition, winchester 55 gr jsp varmint ammo that 8 unfired and uncycled rounds have similar scratches on them from the factory.

is this more of a "who cares, its brass so reload it" or "check the chamber" or hopefully "check the magazine or feed ramp for a burr?"

oh and for the "wise" contributing members, this is in something called a bolt action rifle.

This already tells you it is before you get you hands on it and is probably due to the manufacturing process somehow ... if it is as thin and small as described ... then I would shoot and not worry ... but if it is deep in any fashion I would look closer ...

How about some pictures ... pictures are worth a thousand words...

But in your previous nearly identical thread, you make no mention of firearm or caliber. When you mentioned 55gr loads with a ding/cut 3/8" below the shoulder, it would lead many to assume that your vaguely described problem is simply the all too common ding that an AR puts in cases upon ejection. I apologize if I came off as a "wise" contributing member.

But it looks like you knew the answer to your issue all along, you say your unchambered rounds have this same defect.

A picture would really help.
