I like to take an assortment to the range, and I'm tired of lugging multiple bags - is there anything REALLY durable for four handguns?
Ideally with room for extra mags and lots of ammo?

I like heavy-duty stuff, and have been thinking about getting a shotgun-length case from CC or Browning - but is there anything sturdy that's purpose-built for multiple handguns?

A rifle case would work, but it's too cumbersome...

Thanks,

I use a cordura range bag from Gunmate that I routinely carry four pistols in the two side pockets. These side pockets each have a removable liner case. There is three internal compartments inside which holds ammo, eye and hearing protections and all the other range stuff.

I have a wooden range case that holds six pistols but quit using it after I got this bag. I have also used hardshell rifle and pistol cases.

Cheaperthandirt has the bag (Catalog Item #:73886/ Mfg Item #: 22520) for $18.28. Although is advertises two pistols, believe me; four is no problem.

I also suggest that you check out Bagmaster (www.bagmaster.com). They have a good selection that may fit you.

MTM makes a number of GREAT range/shooting boxes. See here for their selection.

I use the Sportsmen's Utility Case (scroll down the page linked above to see it):

I routinely carry 4 handguns in the foam-lined tray shown, although a scoped gun as illustrated would drop the capacity. There's plenty of room in the bottom compartment for hearing protection, a couple hundred rounds of ammo, cleaning gear, protective eyewear, shooting gloves, a stapler, etc. Highly recommended.

You could also use MTM's Shooter's Accessory Box (see page above):

coupled with their 1400 Handgun/Accessory Case:

I have the latter also (see this page and scroll down for details), and use it a lot to transport handguns.

Overall, I don't know where shooters would be without MTM! (And no, I don't work for them... :D )

Pelican makes very rugged plastic cases with foam inside. Their model 1400 will hold 4 "normal" sized handguns.

I've got one of these Winchester Aluminum double sided pistol cases. Works great. I found it on ebay a while back.

Winchester WA-7044 2 - 4 Gun Handgun Case Hard Shell

They run in the $40 - $60 range.

IMO, A doskoSport All Weather Gun Guard in Large or X-Large. Instead of laying them flat, you can cut the foam (easily done) so that they fit standing up. Very easy to fit 4 or more guns in the case that way.

I took a friend shooting thursday night, who hasnt been in almost a year. We took 5 handguns in the bag, plus the two on me. We used this bag, the Ishot Pro shooters bag.
Heres the companies website

I think gunners alley carries them here
http://www.gunners-alley.com

Truly awesome bag, In addition to 5 handguns and the corresponding ammo, I had abag of 40 12ga shells, two eyes, two ears, clp, stapler, staples, and a butload of magazines. Plus the bag balanced so nice, I couldnt believe how much was in it.

I sometimes carry 3 or 4 pistols im my range bag ( unknown make) It has the 2 removable pistol pockets (My terminology) as well as room for 2 or more others in soft sided cases. Trouble is by the time I load the bag with the weapons, ammo for each, targets, tools for any possible contingency, ear protectors, eye protection, and the ever present water bottle, the bag needs a bellboy to wheel it around. I have been seriously considering a small wheeled softsided suitcase as a solution. Anyone use that method and if so how does it work for you?

VERY helpful, thanks!

And btw the link for Gunner's Alley is http://gunnersalley.com/ (i.e. no hyphen).

And also btw, for a smaller range bag I'll sometimes use a beat-up old briefcase - the large size we call "litigation bag." it'll hold four boxes of ammo and two guns in rugs or small cases, and screams out "I'm boring, don't steal me, nothing interesting in here officer!" But it has no padding of its own, and won't carry as much as I want to sometimes.

Thanks,

Let me also recommend BAGMASTER!

I came upon BAGMASTER products several years ago and have used a number of them. From the Defender Attache' to mag carriers to camera bags. Every one of the products I have used has been of high quality and has withstood some pretty rugged use. Also, they stand behind their products 100%. Good shooting;)

For about 20 years, I have carried a sack full of handguns to the range when I go. I use an old Samsonite carryon bag, and just wrap each handgun in a towel. I think I have used the same towels for about 20 years too.
Never had a ding, or any damage of any kind to any of the guns. Not fancy, but it works.

I purchased an aluminum tool case from Lowes for about 20.00 dollars. It is made for tools and comes with styrofoam. Looks great and not very expensive.

It looks like a brief case made of metal.

I've been using a Waller bag for the past 8 years and it still looks new.

The inside partitions are fully adjustable and/or removable so you can carry

what you want with full protection. They are not cheap, but in my opinion

they are worth every penny.

Harbor Freight has a selection of various padded tool cases that would do the trick but they're not what I'd qualify as very durable. Bagmaster makes good stuff but I haven't brought myself to paying that much for them.

Another option is to make one. You could find a tool box, case, or cart that has the size and features you want and fill the gun storage areas with foam from the local hobby or cloth store. This will give you a wider range of options to look at. I carry a lot of heavy stuff to the range and I'm still shopping for my ideal cart rig.

I've also got the Winchester case

Easily holds 4 and depending on which pistols I've broguth, I've fit 5 comfortably. Will be hitting ebay for another sometime.

That Winchester sure is pretty but the doskosport is more within my (cheap) budget line. I've got one myself but I generally try not to carry more than 2 guns to the range at any given time.

I use the SKB case and it is very durable in addition to being well-made. You can fit 4 handguns into it and with the tight locking clasps, the guns won't move around in the case and accidentally touch each other. If you put four into it, however, you won't have room for extra mags (other than obviously inside the guns) so it won't fit that criteria, but other than that, it seems perfect. HTH.

Oldfella, thanks for that kalispel link. I'll be sending them some money real soon!

I thought I liked that Winchester double-sided case, but after visiting the kalispel....

Let's just say that there is better out there, and for not much more. Cool stuff, indeed.

I just hate it when I have to buy another gun thing!!!

:D

I bought one just like the first one in preacherman's post today. I put three handguns plus mags in the top section and still had plenty of room for another one. I also put five bulkpacks of .22lr ammo and some loose 50 round boxes, an ultimate clip loader, bottles of Hoppes and Breakfree, a box of Qtips, eyes and eyes, and other odds and ins in the bottom section.

It was a pretty heavy load to carry. I won't keep that much ammo in it all the time.
