Case for Pennsylvania Long Rifle (56" long)?

I recently purchased a Traditions Pennsylvania rifle (flintlock) that I'm quite happy with, but I discovered that none of my current gun cases are long enough to fit it (it has about a 40" barrel and an overall length of about 56"). I've been doing a little web browsing, and haven't found any soft cases that go over about 52". I don't want to spend a lot - I'd just like a case to protect the rifle on trips to and from the range. Has anyone found a source of gun cases that fit these long rifles?

Cabela's has leather gun sleeve (ZT21-0181) to 60" and an Indian Print Case (ZT 21-5478) either 53" or 73".

Doug, you can buy soft cases for them but it's not worth the expense. I've found it easy to just make your own case from an old blanket.

Fold the blanket in half. Lay the gun down on the blanket with the bottom of the gun near the fold. Take a piece of chalk or a pencil and allowing plenty of room for sewing, trace over the top of the gun, leaving the case about a foot longer than the gun, with the excess length at the butt end.

Cut on the line and sew from the muzzle end back, leaving the butt end open to insert the gun. Sew a long strip of blanket to one side of the butt end of the case, perpendicular to the case, then flip it inside out.

Now you can slide your gun into the case, fold over the excess you left at the butt end, and wrap the strip around the gun and tie.

Makes a great soft case and depending on the blanket you use, it's somewhat period correct also. Takes maybe 15 minutes to make if you have access to a sewing maching. A little longer if you have to hand stitch.

Thanks to both of you for the good suggestions. I went to the Cabelas web site and not only did they have the "Indian Print" case that looks similar to the blanket case I could make myself (it's the part # you listed), but they have a nylon 60" black powder rifle case that was more like what I originally had in mind. The instructions for making a case from a blanket are also an option I'll consider - my wife sews, so she could probably put this together for me very easily (I hadn't thought of making one).

FWIW - BassPro website shows a super-nice hardcase that it will fit into if you're interested in going that route.

Doug, if you do have her make you a case, have her flip it inside out before sewing on the tie strip. I just noticed that mistake in my post. Dang, some days even coffee doesn't help!

Buy leather and sew one out of leather. May have to use an awl to punch the holes into the leather but that will be something that you can proudly show at Rendezvous.

I made one for my GPR out of buckskin just the way Plink said to do with the blanket. Still have to bead it, but it looks great.

Yep, works for leather too and looks a lot better. I'm just lazy and wanted a quick fix for trips to the range. I would love to make some from buckskin some time. Might make a nice winter project.
