Is there any DIY case polishing solution? I think I read somewhere to use nufinish? Or do I have to buy a specialized case cleaning solution from one of the online sellers.

Also, same question for case lube. Any way to DIY?

btw this is for reloading pistol if that matters.

Nu-Finish car polish is added in small amounts to walnut or corncob media in a case tumbler.

A quick rinse in dilute Vinegar & dish soap will get the grunge off.

In the long run, liquid case cleaning is a PITA though.

You have to make sure you don't leave them too long and etch the brass.
You have rinse again & shake all the water out & dry them.
They still don't come half as close to shiny as using a dry media tumbler.

I have a media tumbler. So nufinish is the answer I was looking for there. Thanks rcmodel.

What about Case lube? Is there a DIY case lube? Do I need to lube cases if I am just doing pistol?

dunno on Diy case lube
You don't need case lube if your using carbide pistol dies
Rifle you do need case lube for resize

Good grief man!

Case lube only costs a few dollars and will last longer then I care to keep track of.

One can of spray case-lube will make sizing pistol cases, even in a carbide die, so much easier you will wonder why everyone doesn't do it!

I have heard of using Mink Oil boot treatment, but it costs more then real case lube!

I can tell the diference in pull effort imediately using case sizing lub. I'm doing 9mm straight cases and carbide dies.

Right or wrong, my lube was in the mail, so I used a skosh of chapstick on my fingertips to treat every 5th round or so. It seeemed to work just fine.

I'm not trying to start a legend. I did use Chapstick , but prefer LEE sizing lube diluted with alchohol in a spray mister.

Pistol case lube isn't very demanding. Many substitutes work well, perhaps soft waxes are easist to find and use.

As you found, the stiff wax in Chapstick works fine but it's NOT cheap, and a bit too stiff for easy use. Kiwi Neutral shoe wax, Kiwi Mink Oil and Snow-Proof boot treatments, any of the nipple balms for nursing mothers and some hand soaps like Nutragenia that contain high levels of lanolin, K-Y Jelly and its generics, all work fine.

I once bought some pure Anhydrous Lanolin at a druggist.

It is the very best case lube I have ever found for reforming rifle cases into another caliber.

The up side is, it stops your hands from cracking open in the winter. :D

The down side is, it makes you smell like a Wet Sheep!

Nu-finish works great. I also found that dirty cases will benefit a lot from a dash of rubbing alcohol splashed into the media about a minute before you dump in the brass will give excellent results.

At the insistence of an electrician, I tried the liquid they use to pull wire through conduit. If I hadn't already bought a lifetimes supplly of Imperial Sizing Die wax, I would use it for sizing lube and polishing.

If you have the right constitution to frequent a biker bar, dab yourself liberally with lanolin. When you leave 3/4 of the girls will follow the arroma, but so will 9% of the bikers!:what::evil:

I use corn cob from Graingers with a bit of Nu-Finish for tumbling. Toss in a dryer sheet when the mix starts dusting. About as cheap as anything out there. I also use the lanolin/Ispropol mix for lube. Light spray, let the alcohol evaporate, and resize. Never had a stuck case using this mix.
