case tumbler

The most recent one is an Ultra Vibe 10 that I've probably had 10 years or so. I think it was $150 or so, but it's a well built tumbler, fan cooled, insulated motor, sealed bearings. I tend to over load it, but it still manages to keep up fairly well. But my next tumbler will be a drum type, wish I had thought of that years ago.

I have 2 Lyman's. they work great! As for media.... Go to Pet Smart and buy crushed walnut Lizard litter. I use crushed walnut and odder less mineral spirits to clean, then I clean/polish after sizing with a crushed walnut/corn cob blend and cap full of new finish.

I second the cabelas tumbler, its cheap and quality. Comes with the polish/corn cob. I've put that tumbler through some serious use, with no trouble or hiccups.
I should change out the media soon, but the brass still comes out nice and shiny, screw it.

Frankford arsenal tumbler for me.

Recently died due to a mfg defect in the casting of the bearing base. Called up support asking how much for a bearing base to repair my unit.

They sent me a whole new tumbler. Oh well! :D

Another vote for Cabela's vibratory tumbler which actually is Berry's tumbler in green (They also make red one for Brownells/Sinclair for $53) - http://www.brownells.com/reloading/...rs-accessories/berry-s-tumbler-prod36851.aspx

I have the green one from Cabela's and used to have old and new Frankford Arsenal tumblers from MidwayUSA. Berry's tumbler has much larger capacity with more powerful and quieter motor. IMO, it's the best tumbler for the money.

You can order the Berry's blue tumbler for $49 from eabco (BTW, they are offering 15% off promotion til 12/30 with code 15EAB) - http://www.eabco.com/store/reloading-supplies/berrys-model-400-tumbler-cleans-polishes-brass-cases/

FYI, all the tumbler parts except the motor are made in the USA.

I have a Cabelas/Berrys and a Lyman 1200.
I like the action of the C/B a little more than the Lyman. However, no noticable difference in cleaning results.
The C/B has quit about four times. The first three one of the wires broke where it went into a connecter. The last time the wire came out of the plastic insulated block. I tried to drown it with solder by heating the wire and letting it fill the hole. That did not work. It is sitting now.
I would add that one of the best reloading investments I have made is the Berrys rotary sifter.

Tumbler or "Vibrator".

No more "Vibrators" for me. Changed to SS pin tumbling media several years ago and haven't looked back. It's like loading brand new brass fresh from the box/bag. Clean inside, outside, primer pockets spotless, and as shiny as I need.

Give some thought to a Thumbler Model B High Speed with 5# of SS Pins. Will certainly cost more than $75 but you won't be sorry. Say goodbye to buying corncob/walnut shell, polish, and having all kinds of dust around the "vibrator".

Every word amlevin says is true. No dust, no drier sheets cleaning media, no dust/dirt on hands, and brass is like new clean 100% inside and out.

Wait and spend the extra money on the rotary tumbler and stainless pins. The extra put into the tumbling really pays off when loading.

When resizing rifle case's with bottle necks the expander ball move through the neck with great ease.

for a few more bucks you could get the Lyman 2500 Pro Magnum , I've been running mine for 12+ years ,

holds a lot more brass than most other listed so far , and they run about $80.00

Franford Arsenal here. Paid $45 for it a few years ago and she is still going strong. I use crushed walnut in it.

I have the FA kit. $70 bucks and includes the rotary sifter with bucket, corn cob media and brass polish. Throw in a pack of dryer sheets to keep the media cleaner longer and you are set for a few thousand cases.

If folks like supporting the Chinese labor force, Frankfort Arsenal is the way to go.

However if folks would like to support U. S. Products and labor then the Berry tumbler is the best choice, and even at the same price point.

+1 on the Lizard media. Great stuff and very cheap

The new FA tumbler has larger bowl but Berry's tumbler bowl capacity is significantly larger. Berry's advertises 1000 9mm cases but it will comfortably do around 800 cases before slowing down. New FA will do around 500-600. Berry's tumbler has much more powerful motor that is quieter. It has heavier/longer power cord with an in-line on/off switch that is convenient.

As to FA media separator, it is a joke. The small "fins" that clip onto the 5-gallon bucket won't stay put and tumbling media will fly all over when you spin the separator. In comparison, the capacity of Berry's media separator is about double that of FA unit and the full cover prevents media from flying all over the place.

I do like Frankford Arsenal products (like their dial calipers and DS-750 digital scale) but definitely not the media separator. FA tumbler will work, but if the price is comparable, Berry's tumbler is definitely a better tumbler that's made in USA except for the motor.

Just received the Cabelas tumbler kit for xmas and already used it for .223 brass. ran great, used the polish, and the results were better than expected. For the money, its definitely worth it.
