I was wondering if anyone has any experience with any of their parts and service.
Do they do custom machining requests if needed?

I am looking to build a truly custom 1911 pistol with all the features that I want without any compromises.

I've not had the pleasure of using Caspian parts but as I understand it they are the go-to source for stripped frame and slides for custom builds. I don't know if they'll do custom machining, but they offer about every custom option under the sun standard.

Can't help you with your question but back in the 80's I bought a Caspian frame and slide made as a "gunsmith fit". That meant in order to get the slide on the frame I had to beat it with a rubber mallet. The rest of the parts came from various sources.

To this day it is still as accurate as when it was built.

Caspian Arms makes top notch frames and slides. I have a full-house Harrison custom on a Caspian frame and slide as well as a few Franken-guns using Caspian frames. All are great guns.

I have limited experience with other Caspian components. Caspian does stand behind their products, so you can rest assured that you will be happy.

Do you consider a cast frame a compromise?

I don't, but some do. You might ask your builder which frame they would prefer to work on before buying. If you are going to build it yourself, be aware that it really will be custom as everything will have to be fitted.

The only experience I have with Caspian frames and slides has been with early SIG GSR 1911s. They were unable to hold the tolerances, varied from batch to batch, that SIG believed they would to allow SIG to just assemble the guns. Not a problem with a custom build, but not so desirable for a production gun

Call Caspian and talk with Gary Smith. He is a great person to work with and can supply you with everything from a raw receiver and slide to a fully fitted slide and receiver with a variety of options.

Look at the "Options" available on the receiver menu and you will see that they will cut the feed ramp, checker the front strap, fit parts, etc. Same on the slide, look at the "Options" and you will see a variety of machining and fitting available.

For a build I had done, Gary knew the gunsmith quite well and informed me that he would want a raw .38 frame and a .45 slide - which was exactly correct when I checked with the builder. As a side note, before the shipping department would ship the parts, they called me to ask if the order was correct with parts of different calibers - which I thought was great customer service to ensure I was getting the correct parts.
