I would worry more about slamfires in the Win 100 rifle. That mechanism has a real slamfire issue. I don't have one, so I don't know if the firing pin arrangement prevents positive contact with the primer prior to bolt closure, but if it does not, I would not use cast bullets in the thing.

These are posts where the slamfire issue with the Win 100 is addressed.

I have known a number of buds that had out of battery slamfires in Garands, with cast bullets, that blew the receiver heels off. Cast bullets tend to be larger in diameter than jacketed, and as such, the bolt has to crush fit the round to the chamber. As the bolt is delayed going into battery when crunching, the free floating firing pin in a Garand has the opportunity to tap the primer, at, the highest forward velocity of the reloading cycle. If the Win 100 has a similarly free floating firing pin, I would avoid using cast bullets in the mechanism. And regardless of bullet, I would use the least sensitive primers on the market: CCI #34's and Tula 7.62.

as fare as i know once the firing pin was replaced the slamfire stopped, you are right about fitment on the bullet. if i do get the rifle i will chamber cast a see what i have. still not 100% if i am getting the rifle or will have the money, it seams to be priced good at 375 and has a lyman peep.

i really am just looking for a fast rifle for hunting. i would prefer a rem 14/141 or if i had the money a rem model 8/81

I don't have one of those and I have never inspected the mechanism. I remember looking at an exploded diagram but that did not tell me much. All you have to do is google Win 100 slamfires and there are a lot of shooters who have had slamfires in the things. The firing pin fix did not really "fix" it, and personally, I would find something else to buy, even though the price seems very reasonable. If you ever have a slamfire in a semi auto rifle, even if "nothing" happens, you never really feel safe again. Always, in the back of your mind, is the knowledge, it could happen again. And even though you are as prudent as possible, prudence may delay the event, prudence may mitigate damage, but prudence will not prevent a recurrence.
