Looking for a nice cast bullet to use in my Marlin 1894 stainless carbine.
This will be strictly a plinking load so top velocity isn't necessary, more interested in accuracy and reliability in my lever gun.
Gun has Ballard 6 groove rifling with a 1:38" RH twist.
Also overall cartridge length would be appreciated.
Sorry forgot to mention it's a 44mag.

Any of the .357 - 158 gr cast bullets will work well in that rifle in either Round Nose or Semi Wadcutter.
I cast my own with a Lee 158 SWC Gas Check design and it is very accurate in my Marlin 1894 C with the shorter barrel.
For powder I mostly use Unique or 2400 depending on the load

I plink a little with mine, for a super cheap load I use 158grn hard cast with 4grn of Trailboss. I don't remember the OAL

If you want something a little hotter

Same boolit with 15.5grns of AR2205 (this is an Australian powder made by ADI there will be the same powder in the US under the Hodgdon brand) IIRC they are traveling around 1400 fps

Edited to add

AR2205 = H4227 / H110 or IMR4227

Since I don't mess with gas checks, I don't push my 44 loads over 1200 fps in my Marlin. I use a hard cast 180/200/240 gr lead bullet sized at .430 without issue using 2400 or Clays.

Try Lee mold 429-160 wadcutter ww boolit over 5 to 7 gr Win 231. Works great in my SW 629 6". Let me know if you do! I got 1 5/8" 25 yard groups. Good reloading, Catpop
