Folks,

FWIW, I'd like to see posting from other THR readers/viewers
who would be willing to post cast bullets for sale [they personally cast]
to others on THR.

Might be a nice way to 1) make a few friends 2) exchange loading data or idea's, 3) make a few $$ to save for that "project" you keep thinking about.

Just "FOOD FOR THOUGHT"

Thanks,

In order to sell bullets, you have to get a FFL to do it legally. Also it would be wise to also get a butt-load of insurance at the same time.

I don't know if GIVING some to somebody could get you in trouble or not. I hope not, because I've done it in the past.

Good idea, but in todays society, the lawyers have made it not fun anymore.

Snuffy, he said cast bullets, not complete ammunition.

No FFL is needed to make and sell cast bullets (the projectiles, lest we forget what "bullet" really means in the oft-bastardized gun vernacular).

Selling complete ammunition, however, requires that a person have a Type 06 FFL - $30.00 for the initial license, and $30.00 for renewal, plus applicable insurance and business licenses/permits.

SNUFFY, "Cast Bullets, not loaded ammo"

Snuffy,

I've had a couple casters send me samples of various cast bullets they routinely shoot. I thought my idea would be a good way to swap or sell amongst us thereby bypassing the BS Demo-Rats who are ruining everything.

My local area, central SC, is almost totally out of primers, powder, and any type of rifle or pistol brass. "Rolling your own is going to be the only way to keep shooting, and hunting, til after the election next year. It seems just before every [presidential] election we go through this. The Democrats already tried to jump on the (anti)firearms bandwagon and haven't had any success. Now they're moving onto components.

Any takers? I shoot 300-350+- gr .458diameter for 45-70. I'll be casting some myself this week.

Thanks,

HiVelocity in SC;)

Type 6 FFL is a licensed maker of ammunition and reloading components other than Armor Piercing ammunition
Type 7 FFL is a Title 1 manufacturer of firearms, ammunition and ammunition components other than NFA, Destructive Devices and Armor Piercing ammunition.

I'd call bullets components.
I found that here; http://www.quarterbore.com/nfa/class3.htm
That means each person that would "sell" bullets on here would have to get a type 6 FFL.

Then, if anything bad happened when someone used one of those bullets, that person COULD get sued.

if you cruise over to cast boolits and offer to pick up shipping and a bit extra for some of those fellows time, they are usually happy to send a few out to test a bullet type for you. I've done this on several occasions to help decide what mold i want.

i'm talking maybe 50-100 bullets, but it is enough to see if your gun likes them and groups them well before you plunk down money on a mold.

i'd be happy to offer up some of my castings for people to experiment with, but i won't be able to run the pot again till christmas.

That's perzactly what I did on several occasions, offered via PM to a couple of people some of my boolits to try. if you make it clear that they can pick up the postage, and offer a gratuity IF they wish, you aren't in as much of a bind if something happens. Maybe some shyster lawyer could still try to get you in hot water, but you're clear as far as the BATFE goes.

If we did it that way, not to demand a certain price, just doing a favor, at no cost. Then we could list molds we have, how hard we make boolits, and whether we have any to send. Any lawyers on here? Or do we have to try it to find out how much trouble we get into?:neener::what::eek::confused:

As long as it doesn't cost me anything, my leisure time is free, lead is also free to me, so postage paid by the receiver. I love to help people learn about the advantages of shooting lead boolits. Even to help them get started in casting. Not to beat a dead horse, but we do have to do it legally.

I'm all for this. Unfortunately, it seems like unless you've got the money for a machine to automate the process, you're not going to make any money.

I consider powder valley to be the cheapest at $38 per 1000 9mm and $46 per 1000 45acp. those are the only two calibers I load.

If anyone here could get close to those prices, I would do business with them instead.

I just started casting, and have a blast doing it, but am short of lead, plus the heat out here starts assoon as the sun comes up. About October I think I can cast for a serious amount of time. Should be able to afford more lead by then, too.:)

That's interesting.

Not "good" interesting or "bad" interesting - just interesting.

On a whim, I just talked to several of my favorite cast boolit suppliers, some rather well-known in the handloading world, and none of them bother with a Type 06 FFL. They could be courting trouble, of course, but none of them consider their non-serial-numbered projectiles to be worthy of such onerous paperwork, let alone the licensing or excise tax on their products.

I sell reloadable 7.62x45 Czech VZ-52 brass on my website, and have applicable city and state business permits. I've never bothered with a Type 06 FFL, either. I've even mentioned it to BATF folks when we discuss my Type 03 FFL, and they didn't give me any grief about it.

Guess I'll wait for the knock on the door in the middle of the night. ;)
