When i can find a cast lead bullet that i have shot at the range, as a rule i see expansion. Run fairly soft about 14 hardness or less. At the same time expansion on hollow point jacketed bullets seems about the same. Fullly jacketed bullet may get some distortion.

Am I totally wrong?

As far as cast HP's expanding like jacketed HP,yes it can be done provided you use the correct alloy and velocity.

I am casting all my own hollowpoints now. The key to getting them to mushroom like that beautiful example of res45's is, to eliminate or keep to a bare minimum antimony in the alloy. A binary alloy of lead and tin in 20-1 or 25-1 proportions (depending upon your velocity) will usually work quite well.

Hopefully sometime in Nov. my new 357 HP mold from NOE will be in it's a 160 gr. gas check HP with to crimp grooves one for 38 and one for 357 cases.
