I am getting Ready to Cast some 44 cal Bullets. I have done it before useing a Lee Double cavity mold and soft lead for my saboted muzzle loading practice loads. The 240 grain mold cast right on size at .429.
I have recently bought a 12 inch 44 magnum barrel for my Encore Pistole. I would Like to be able to use it to make 44 bullets for it, I also have bought some Linotype Ingots, My question is what ratio of Linotype too soft Lead would work well. Excpecialy with the higher end loads that the Encore Barrel is capable of. Also is the Mix Ratio done by weight or volume. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance Ted

I would start with something like 1 part Linotype to 10 parts soft lead. I would prefer the mold to drop the bullets at a larger diameter. You'll just have to shoot a few. I do my mixing by weight.

I'm not into powder coating but those that do swear by it. It will allow you to use a softer alloy.

As long as your alloy has 2% antimony or more, bullets can be hardened by Oven Heat Treating, water cooled. Dropping from mold into water didnt produce the best accuracy, for me.
This saves the high cost of adding Linotype.
