I purchased a replacement butt stock for my 1970 1100 in .410 from Gunstocks Inc. Total with shipping was $68.45 I received the stock and I immediately noticed the hole for the Spring Tube was drilled severely off-center causing a bad cast on and it didn't seat correctly on the action. I put my original stock next to the replacement stock to show the amount off center it was and took the attached photo. I included this photo with my returned stock. I know that it was an unfinished stock and might require some fitting but the hole was so off center I was afraid that to take that much wood away I would run the risk of not being able to secure the butt stock with the nut securely. I sent the stock back to Gunstock Inc at a cost of 21 dollars so now I have almost 80 dollars in to the stock. The response was they got the stock to fit their receiver and sent a picture of an unfinished stock on a receiver it didn't look like a 410 or 28ga receiver to me.

They said it was not defective and responded (and this is a quote) "If you want to blame us for your inabillity and/or unwillingness to do the small amount of work it took to properly fit the stock to a gun it was made for then that is up to you" :cuss:

I love being insulted by people I give money to don't you? They only refunded 39.71

Bottom line in my estimation they make a poor quality product and will not stand behind their crap. I have since found a finished butt stock with butt plate at Numrich (which in hindsite is where I should have started at) for 78 bucks

If you've had a different experience with Gunstock Inc consider yourself lucky

I dont think I am being unreasonable If you think I am being unfair to them please comment.

Yeah, that looks goofy. That is pretty poor QC. Can't say whether the off center hole or the other things mentioned would cause any fitting issues without having it in hand. There seems to be a lot of that kind of attitude from vendors these days. Even S&W is turning out crappy revolvers and calling them good.

Certainly it's a 'private transaction', it's also a classic depiction of a lousy product and if the OP was treated as he described it's damned good reason to avoid that company like the plague!

Thanks for the post, it's a company I'll remember!

MSgtEgress, I ordered two stock from Richards Micro fit, I informed them I thought I could teach wood peckers to do a better job.

Did you pay by credit card? If so, likely you will have some recourse. I've been in similar situations and the credit card company has always decided in my favor. Send them the photo and tell them what you told us.

Thanks for the advice, Sleazy.. I just got off the phone with my CC company and they have issued me a credit for the difference 28.74. I'm out the 21.00 shipping cost to send the POS back but it beats being out almost 50 bucks.

Send them links to all the negative feedback you left. People like this need to be taught a lesson.
That stock requires more than fitting. It was bored completely off center.

I'm no expert, but I've done a fair bit of stock work and I can see no way to mount that stock without the receiver stud being centered in the stock.

The stock MSgtEgress returned could be and was properly fit to a gun it was made for. MSgtEgress was issued a refund in accordance with the return/refund policy agreement he read and agreed with when he place the order.

Looks like two completely different stocks to me. Look at the grain pattern.

Also the picture he provides shows the bore way off center.
It appears your company is in the wrong on this one. Then again I could be completely wrong.
Let's see what others have to say.

I'm having a REAL hard time believing that the fitted stock you are showing is the same one in the first post.

1. The hole magically recentered itself without enlarging?
2. The direction of the grain of the wood changed dramatically. Not just where material would have been removed but everywhere else as well.
3. The defect in the inlet for the trigger group disappeared.
4. All the misaligned cuts are now misaligned in different directions with additional wood appearing where the old cuts would have been.

Also, while the second picture was taken a month ago, the first and third appear to have been taken today. (Oops, you left the metadata in the files! That's how BTK got caught, too.) I don't see how those could have been e-mailed to the customer previously.

In any case, it's pretty low class to bring your rebuttal to the forum like you have. If I was ever tempted to get one of your replacement stocks I certainly will not be now.

Free advice to Gunstocks, Inc.: When in doubt, do what L.L. Bean would do, to wit:

"Our products are guaranteed to give 100% satisfaction in every way. Return anything purchased from us at any time if it proves otherwise. We do not want you to have anything from L.L.Bean that is not completely satisfactory."

Worked for them.

As a retired stair builder/woodworker and gunsmith in my opinion you owe MSgtEgress $21.00.
Character rebuilding is up to you. GSI quote: "If you want to blame us for your inabillity and/or unwillingness to do the small amount of work it took to properly fit the stock to a gun it was made for then that is up to you".

To the OP, hope it all works in your favor. I don't believe I will be purchasing anything from GSI. Not everybody that frequents this forum is an expert but it's pretty hard to pull the wool over our eyes.

What a farce. If nothing else, this pretty much disabused me of the notion of using GSI. I've never had an issue with Boyds.

My 83 year old Mother called them to see if they still made some shoes my father wore-out after 20+ years. They did have them and they sent him a new pair free of charge. They have the best customer service.
