CBSNews.com recently posted an article about the Most heavily-armed states in America with the thousands of firearms registered in each state.

There's only one teensie-tiny problem. Most states don't register firearms, so how do they know how many there are?

They don't. The numbers reported appear to be the number of NFA Registered weapons (SBR, SBS, DD, and AOW) for each state. Note there are 42,897 registered firearms among the 646,449 population of the District of Columbia.

For every 1,000 residents in Kansas, there are 11 guns. That's 31,926 registered firearms dispersed among 2,893,957 people.
ROFLMAO!!!'

Outside of my little liberal college town?

I have never known anyone in Kansas who didn't own at least 2-3 guns.

Usually .22, a hunting shotgun, and some sort of handgun.

On my own block, I know of my 55, the guy across the streets 4, and the guy next to him's 4.

That is an average of 21 per home, in three houses.

But I might have threw off the Kansas average a little bit.

That article (List) is complete junk. Totally false information, There are waaaaaay more guns than they have listed in each state. It's just designed to scare people and they can't even do that right.

Wow, what type of an idiot would write this and claim it to be news? Do they have even a smidgeon of common sense? What type of idiot editor would allow this to get out?

Even if the numbers are actually NFA firearms, is it plausible that Washington DC has the second highest per capita ownership of NFA firearms? I am actually surprised that there would be any NFA firearms in DC.

I'm kinda surprised if there are 31,926 NFA firearms in Kansas too.

It wasn't the most friendly NFA state in the country until some laws were changed in the last few years.

I think the whole thing is made-up horse pucky.

FBI, Washington Metro PD, Library of Congress SWAT, Homeland Security, Postal Department Police, Secret Service, BATF SRT, US Mint Police, ... for all we know Barney's Coffee off the square has one in DC.

And ME is not even listed.
(Fewer people than in most US cities.)

Dang. I feel unsafe.

Maybe I'll sleep with the 9 under my pillow tonight.

The 1994 Clinton Administraion NSPOF survey estimated 192 million civilian guns.

Obama Administration surveys estimated 317 million civilian guns.

Murder rate from 9 per 100,000 to 4 per 100,000. Proving more guns, less murder.

Still, NFA registrations are as bad a proxy for gun ownership rate as the use of NRA membership, or gun suicides, or subscriptions to Guns & Ammo magazine.

That list is crap. Alaska would be number 1 LOL. 11k guns? In ALL of Alaska? There's probably 11k guns within 5 mile circle of my house.
