I've got a beautiful 686 with a four inch barrel. Am I crazy for wondering about inside the waist band carry for this gun. I've got a good High Noon Holsters gun belt. Of course, I don't have a holster for this gun. Is it just too big and heavy to consider? I have IWB carried a full size CZ 75B in a Minotaur holster from Comp-tac and the size and weight wasn't a problem.

yes...you are certifiably insane :D

IWB holsters are torture of the magnitude of the inqusition

flat guns are MUCH better against the body

It is probably doable, if you are willing to pay top dollar for a really nice holster. Not sure if Tucker Gunleather makes a holster for the 686, but if they do you might consider one. Though if it doesn't work, that is about $100+ out the window.

I carry a 4" S&W Model 15 IWB pretty frequently, though it is a bit narrower than a 686. Once you find the right spot to position the holster, which may take some experimenting over a week or two, it isn't bad at all. 3:30 seems to work best for me.

I love my 4" 686 and it's just a favorite gun of mine. But unlike other things I like, it is NOT getting inside my pants. I use it instead as a nightstand gun, and open shoulder and belt carry.

I even tried a 2.5" 668, but it just wasn't that concealable, either. For cc in a wheel gun I love the 2.5" K frame 19/66 models. You can put them in a high-ride OWB and they disappear, and you still have a powerful gun on tap.

Rather than IWB consider a good pancake style (Simply Rugged is good source). Instead of looping the belt the normal way, behind the holster, loop your belt outside the holster. It helps conceal the piece a bit better by keeping it snug to your body.

I carry a S&W 4" N frame in a Bianchi 5BH on my belt daily. Not a pancake but also an option.

I really like my 686, too, especially with Ahrends grips on it.

For CC, I got a 2 1/4" Model 60 when I found a good deal on one. .357 if I want it, but it's a hell of a lot easier to carry. I can even carry it in a pocket holster.

S&w 686 iwb?

It would be too much for me as a carry gun. I like the Colt Detective or the Ruger SP101 IWB. Try it for a while and get a feel for it, then you will know for sure. My brother carries his Ruger speed six that way .

Really appreciate the replys. I guess it was just wishful thinking. Some things can be done and some things can be done but shouldn' t be. I guess this would be one of the better guns for open carry but that's a whole different topic.
