I heard this is being worked on by CCI. Primers that go dead after one year. It came up a few years ago and when I ask I was told anything that would make it go dead in a year would make it go dead in a day,

Thanks,Keith

There was a scare around Y2K time about the Gummint mandating primers that have a built-in expiration. Turned out to be pure Bull dung, but it did motivate all the paranoids (including me) to stock up. The primer prices jumped as the result. Before Y2K, the primers cost ~$8/1000 wholesale, afterwards - ~$12/1000. Within last year, the price jumped to ~$22/1000.

But, you never know. Would love to hear more.

Hopefully, this is not a misinterpretation of the Non-toxic primer requirements in some places. The NT primers use an organic compound (Dinol) as initiator, with projected shelf life of 10-15 years.

Geeezz...I'm in trouble...I just loaded a bunch of .45 ACP with CCI-300 that I bought in 1997...Oh wait a minute...That's right...None have failed to fire in the last batch a week ago...O K..........:neener::D

No I don't mean it is in place right now, but it is in the works. Or is it ? It came up a few years ago and turned out to be BS. I sent CCI and Sierra Bullets an email to see what they have to say about it. I hope it is still BS,

Thanks,Keith

Urban legend or not, it's never wrong to stock up. The price will keep on climbing. Think of it as an investment! That's what I've been telling my wife, the looks I get are priceless :)

The good old lead styphnate primers last forever. I am still using the Cascade primers I bought in the 70s, under the 1952 vintage Hi-Vel #2 powder, to load 30-06.

let me guess? This came from a local gunshop.

Lol. doesn't it always?

I believe we even had a thread running on "stupid things you've been told at gun shops" some short time ago.

Agreed.

Last year bought a bunch of CCI#34's at $75.00 per five thousand. Now look at how much they cost.

No truth to it

>Hi Keith,
Rest easy....no truth in that rumor at all.
Paul Is it true that CCI is making a primer that
goes dead
after one year ? If so it could be nothing but a 100 %
gun control move,

Thanks,Keith
