I saw on a thread that CCI now has a new box. I ordered a buch of primers CCI 500 primers and I have been having the primer go off but nothing else happens. I have shot about 5000 rounds and this is the first time it has happened. Can anyone tell me the problem.

Thanks

Is this new brass? Is the flash hole clear? Have you tried the same powder with different primers? If all else fails I would call CCI and give them the lot number. Maybe you have some from a bad batch.

It is not new brass. But I always have at least 800 loads. I have always used CCI primers. It is only the new ones that are doing this.

Every single one? If thats the case you either have bad (weak) primers or your powder went south..................................of you didn't put powder in the cases.

Primers

No not everyone of them. About 1 in every 20. The bullets were taken apart and they had the proper power(New) Bullseye. I load 500 with the old primers before I purchased the new ones and all fired. I called Midway and they gave me CCI's number and they were real a__ holes.

Did you touch the primers? I have heard that the #1 reason for primer faliure is due to someone touching them. Your body oil (or any oil) can weaken the primer.

I was once given an old box of reloading equipment, In the box was some reloaded 30-06 shells. I don't shoot other peoples reloads, especially reloads from someone I don't know. So I pulled the bullets, dumped the powder. I wanted to save the brass, so I soaked them in water for two days. I don't trust depriming live primers, so I chambered them and pulled the trigger. would you believe that they all went off. Before I bought a hand primer, I had to touch all of my primers, and to this day I have never had a primer not go off. KNOCK ON WOOD.

I touch every primer I load, using the priming ram on my press and inserting them one at a time as I flare handgun cases. Same with rifle cases as I collet neck size them.

I've never had a misfire. Granted, I wash my hands prior to beginning. But I refuse to believe that primers are that sensitive to touching them.

nitesite,

I am guessing the copper is a little thicker on the new batch you got and either you have a heavy firing pin spring, which a good thing, or your hammer spring is light. I have been loading both new and old box CCI and haven't seen a problem. The only primer misfire I have experienced lately was on a new HK, I was experimenting with a 10 lbs hammer spring and occasionally one or two rounds in 200 wouldn't fire until I installed a heavier spring. However, this problem was self induced and as soon as I went to the 12 lbs spring no more misfires.
