I constantly read comments put up on this board about how the NRA and the Republicans are a bunch of worthless sell-outs because the 1968 GCA and the NFA haven't been immediately overturned.

I wonder what the folks who make such comments say about this, especially considering the source of this press release?

Contact: Alan Gottlieb or Joe Waldron, 425-454-4911, both of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms

BELLEVUE, Wash., Jan. 31 /U.S. Newswire/ -- For the second time in two years, the failure of Wisconsin's State Assembly to override anti-gun Gov. Jim Doyle's veto of crucial personal protection legislation proves that Democrats are "all talk and no walk" on the issue of firearms rights and the safety of their constituents, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) said this afternoon.

"For all their lip service about supporting the gun rights of Wisconsin citizens," said CCRKBA Executive Director Joe Waldron, "this vote once again demonstrates that Democrats cannot be trusted. When Democrats hit the campaign trail this fall, gun owners will be reminded that their rhetoric is empty, and that when they had the chance to do the right thing, they failed. Gov. Doyle may engage in political chest thumping and call this a victory, but in reality, it's a victory for criminals, who will have a risk-free working environment."

CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb called the vote "deplorable" and criticized Wisconsin's Democrats for succumbing to anti-gun hysteria. The ultimate losers are the law-abiding citizens who are once again left with the knowledge that not only Gov. Doyle, but Democrats in the Legislature do not care about their safety or their right of self-defense, he said. Gottlieb was particularly critical of Assembly members John Steinbrink and Terry Van Akkeren, who were considered key override votes, but succumbed to partisan politics.

"We want these two lawmakers, and Gov. Doyle, to know that every time a woman is raped by a stalker or assaulted or murdered by an ex-boyfriend, their blood will be on your hands," Gottlieb stated. "Every time a shopkeeper is robbed, every time a motorist is the victim of a carjacking, every time a law-abiding citizen is victimized when he or she would have been able to fight back, that crime is as much your responsibility as that of the perpetrator, because you let it happen.

"The Wisconsin vote," Gottlieb said, "is symbolic of how Democrats across the nation will say one thing and do another when it comes to gun rights and personal protection. They are the party of victim disarmament, no matter what they say when they want your vote. Once again in Wisconsin, they have put political ideology ahead of public safety, and the criminals win while citizens lose."

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms -- http://www.ccrkba.org -- is one of the nation's premier gun rights organizations. As a non-profit organization, the Citizens Committee is dedicated to preserving firearms freedoms through active lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grass-roots organization of gun rights activists in local communities throughout the United States.

I've been at the state Capitol many times over the last five years for this bill.

Never saw anyone from CCRKBA or GOA. All I saw was our NRA/ILA lobbyist working his tail off.

Over the weekend, the NRA ran radio and newspaper ads in Milwaukee, Sheboygan and Kenosha. They lit up the phone banks. They sent out mailers.

On top of that, the NRA is coming back to Wisconsin to work the fall elections.

Yeah, the NRA doesn't do anything.

Let me know when they do any of that for California.

I won't be holding my breath.

I would hope the NRA spends the majority of their (my) money where there is a chance for victory. I am afraid that is not now, nor ever will be possible in California.

OTOH, I am sure the NRA has a lobbying effort in CA. I don't live there, so I will not try to find out what they do there. Perhaps you could, and then get back and say what the NRA does, or doesn't, do in CA.

...and hence, my lack of desire to support them any more. Why should I pay to protect your freedom while mine is whittled away day after day?

It is my fervent wish that all California NRA members stopped sending the NRA money and instead supported a California RKBA group, maybe Gun Owners of California. I have a very strong feeling that that would be one hell of a wakeup call for the NRA.

BTW Dick... heard Gunderson on the radio today, getting hammered by a couple DJs. We REALLY need to muzzle the folks who can't talk without using the NRA "talking points". He came across as a complete twit...

Yes, the NRA has busted balls working for the PPA. What has hurt us, more than anything, is the "They're not commin' fer ma tirty-tirty" crowd. With the political make-up as it is now, the ONLY way we can push CCW through is by getting the hunters solidly (and vocally) behind us...
