Contact: Alan Gottlieb of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, 425-454-4911

BELLEVUE, Wash., Nov. 2 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Thanks to the Brady Campaign's list of endorsements for the Nov. 7 elections, which almost exclusively went to Democrats, it is now clear that the Democrat Party's anti-gun philosophy really hasn't changed, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) said today.

"For several years," observed CCRKBA Chairman Alan M. Gottlieb, "Democrats have been carefully crafting their rhetoric to conceal their anti-gun agenda. They have espoused 'support' for the Second Amendment and individual gun rights, but the anti- gun rights Brady Campaign's list of endorsements belies any pro- gun positions the party has professed.

"It is now all too clear to this nation's gun owners," Gottlieb continued, "that Democrats still adhere to a philosophy that sees this important constitutionally-protected right as nothing more than a privilege that they would erode at every opportunity, because they already have.

"Congressional Democrats are salivating at the prospect of taking over powerful committees, and California's perennial anti- gunner Nancy Pelosi is poised to become the next House Speaker," Gottlieb observed. "How can American gun owners trust the Democrats as a party when so many of their leaders continually receive, and embrace, endorsements from an extremist anti-gun organization?

"The Brady Campaign endorsements are like a shot across the bow of every American citizen who values his or her constitutional right to own a firearm," Gottlieb said. "The Second Amendment and various state constitutional protections aren't about duck hunting or target shooting, and they never were. They are about protecting our right to protect ourselves and our families; they're about liberty and freedom, and about what sets America apart from everyone else, as the greatest nation on earth.

"By accepting these endorsements from the Brady Campaign," Gottlieb concluded, "Democrats, and especially their party leadership, prove once again that they just don't understand this. Maybe it shows they never will."

This has been a busy political season for gun violence prevention advocates. By the spring, a number of incumbents and promising challengers had made it clear that they intended to highlight their support for sensible gun laws, moving the issue to Tier One in their races. The issue had a positive impact:

Ed Perlmutter in Colorado’s Seventh Congressional District believes he won his primary in part because he advocated more common sense in gun laws.
Massachusetts Gubernatorial candidate Deval Patrick also ended up winning his three- candidate primary while aggressively discussing tougher gun laws.
In Illinois, Governor Rod Blagojevich made a state assault weapons ban his top goal for a second term, and Cook County, Illinois voters will cast votes on a referendum to instruct the State Legislature to pass an assault weapons ban. The referendum is expected to win handily.
In New York, Andrew Cuomo has made gun violence prevention a central part of his campaign for Attorney General.
In Maryland, Martin O’Malley has announced he supports a state assault weapons ban, while incumbent Bob Ehrlich continues to oppose a ban.
The new President of the Brady Campaign, Paul Helmke, has appeared personally at endorsement news conferences for Duckworth in Chicago, Patrick in Boston, and Cuomo in New York. Other Brady staff appeared at news conferences for Joe Sestak in Pennsylvania’s Seventh Congressional District and for Governor Blagojevich in Illinois.
The Brady Campaign has already sent approximately 200,000 emails endorsing slates of candidates or specific candidates. In all, the organization will have sent nearly 400,000 emails in the three weeks leading up to the election

As the nation's largest, non-partisan, grassroots organization leading the fight to prevent gun violence, the Brady Campaign, working with its dedicated network of Million Mom March Chapters, is devoted to creating an America free from gun violence, where all Americans are safe at home, at school, at work, and in our communities.

Most Democrats running are anti gun.

A few like Ben Nelson and Bob Casey are decent on the gun issue.
