ccw a 4" revolver?

I carry a Don Hume belt holster either open or snap closed holsters when I carry my Ruger GP100 or SP101 in 4 or 2.25 inch barrel both stainless and fixed sights.

My favorite for a 4" K-frame is my Hoffner's Miurage (see pots #5). I move the rear loop from it's original (pictured) position to the screw at the rear of the holster (about 2" aft, also in the picture). I also own one for the N-frame that is not (IMHO) as comfortable or as well-balanced.

Favorite for a 4" N-frame is an IWB made by Eric at Side Guard Holsters.

4" GP100 or Redhawk in a Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake with IWB straps works pretty well for me. I use a 5.11 leather belt. I also sometimes use a Tagua thumb-break holster for the GP100. A steel 5" 1911 is roughly the same size/weight, and I use a Don Hume 721 OT or a Hazel Leather IWB Strap Holster. Again, with the 5.11 leather belt.

I also sometimes use an Elite IWB Clip Holster for appendix carry, which some people seem to deride and claim that it's unsafe. In my actual experience of carrying it, however, it's reliable and safe.

My only gripe with many pancake holsters is that some sit too high. This slows down my draw and makes my shoulder work too hard when the barrel or slide is fairly long. You'll likely have to test several holsters before settling on one that works well for you.

For IWB, the barrel length does matter. First, a longer barrel can print through the pants. It looks odd and cannot be hidden by an untucked shirt if it's low enough. Additionally, the pants will press against that area of the holster as it tightens when seated. This causes two problems: 1) the gun can press inward into your side when seated in a soft booth, and 2) the pressure of the pants at the muzzle area of the holster can cause the gun to roll back and the butt will print. Loose cut pants can alleviate some of this.

well i have to ask.........

what about a 3" K frame OWB leather rig?
one that holds in close to the body.

my Rossi .44spl is K frame size but the 3" barrel is a real deal bull barrel and the cylinder is non fluted.

got some ideas that dont cost $130.00 with a 6 week wait?

Good quality leather costs money, and takes time to make. 6 weeks is quite reasonable, really.

Pancake holsters, thumb break or not, hold the gun close to the body, and work very well for the 2.5", 3", and 4" K frames.

I sometimes carry my SW N frame 4 inch barrel in a Alessi OWB holster. To hide it you really need to evaluate your clothing.

Currently carrying a 4" gp100SS in a Theis Horsehide and Kydex at 3:30-400 with a loose polo covering. 6' 200#.

I'm wanting my .357 to be my carry gun, But the barrel is 4" and its kind of big. Does anyone have any experience with this? If so could you give me some pointers for the best way to carry and conceal this? Thanks!
I bet bulletproof vest would come in handy with heavy slow to draw long barreled monster eh?:scrutiny:
