CCW applications more than double after VT incident

Just thought I'd share a positive out of the negative of the Virginia Tech incident. Watching the news the other night, Multnomah County (ala Portland, OR) has reported an increase in CCW permit applicants.

They went from 7 per day up to 17. The lady running the front desk at the application department stated that the Virginia Tech incident was quoted as "the reason" several times a day.

Not to glorify the actions of Cho in any way, but I do want to say that I am glad it took some folks off the decision fence. I hope it makes the decision for a lot of people. And I also hope our non-gun policies on college campuses and the like will be revisited in light of these statistics.

We need to remove the happy hunting grounds from the criminals and offer that deterrent CCW offers to the would be cowardly attacks on law abiding citizens.

Most people (usually liberals) need something bad to happen to them or loved ones before they wake up. In this case, a very few are waking up. MOST of them, however, are still asleep.

Some of you guys quite frankly have NO CLUE. If a TV show had a doubling in market share for a week, it'd be a major "entertainment news" headline.

Yet y'all are ready to just dismiss this. Because it wasn't 100x stronger.

Get real.

We're not looking at a situation where we're going win this thing overnight. If you think so, or if you keep screaming so, then you need a serious wakeup call.

It's the small skirmishes that keep people leaning toward self-reliance and common sense.

Think of it this way - if we just gained a million people who realized that common sense trumps theory, would that make you happy? It ain't 200 million. But I'll take it.

cloud, the name calling isn't necessary. The right to bear arms is a right people have the option of accepting or rejecting. Just because someone doesn't conform to your ideals doesn't mean they're slow learners. Some people aren't fit to own or carry a firearm. Some people are just plan scared by them. Some people have had bad experiences with guns.

If I chose not to carry a weapon I'm not a slow learner. That makes you intolerant.

I hate that it takes such a terrible event for people to realize that sometimes they're on their own. Often it takes an actual bad event happening to the person themselves to realize it. If anything perhaps a few people didn't have to actually have a gun pointed in their face to realize that it might happen to them one day.

I agree with this. I was one of the sleepers. I've been a gun owner since 1987. I was just too busy living life and trying to make ends meet to focus on the erosion of my rights. The VT tragedy woke me up, as I'm sure it did many others. It probably also pushed as many to the other camp...I guess we'll see soon enough.
