Hi folks,

Well the time has come for me to get a CC weapon. I sold my S&W Sigma 40 today for $250:what:

I have been looking at a number of firearms, namely Springfield XD9c, M&P9c, and SR9c. I settled on the 9mm's because they are a little cheaper to shoot and the recoil will not be quite a snappy as the .40cal club.

Now to my problem, I don't know which one to get. They all three feel good in my hand. Each of them for me have an equal amount of pros and cons really. For instance, I do not like that the bore axis of the Springfield's are so high, but they are tough and aggressive firearms. The Ruger SR9c has an amazing trigger but its slide action is rough and its thin (I have large hands). The M&P9c feels amazing in my hands and its trigger is also fantastic but people say there are too much sigma in them. (not sure I see that but eh well...)

So i'm reaching out to the community at large to see what they like best out of the three, feel free to recommend something else (no pocket pistols) if you have never handled one of the above.

Thanks folks!

What's your budget? Have you looked into the Glock 26 or H&K P2000sk? I'd take either of these two double-stack 9mm's over any of the choices you listed.

It's a tool, sounds like you should get the M&P, a lot of people are happy with them. Do check out the G26, I have one and love it, friend of mine who has a full sized M&P fell in love w/ G26 and got that for his EDC.

A couple of questions:
-What is your budget?
-Why only those three pistols?
-The 9mm can be just as much a handful as the .40s&w, especially in a subcompact, if you use +p ammo. Keep that in mind as well. I know too many people who buy a G26 because the G27 was "too snappy" and then load it up with 124gr +p Buffalo Bore, and then complain that it kicks like the devil...duh?

I was looking at the same three pistols that you are. I decided on the Ruger.

The M&P felt best in my hand. The SR9c feels OK, but I went with that one because I'm getting this gun strictly for CC. Thinner is better. Of course I'll take it to the range for practice, and it's won't feel as perfect as the M&P did, but I think it will be just that little bit easier and more comfortable to conceal. And I realize that there are thinner pistols, but I didn't want single stack. If I change my mind about that later on, an XDS in 9mm would probably be my choice. Love the fiber optic sight. (Ruger sells a FO front sight for the SR9c which I will be getting)

Good luck with your hunt. You can't really go wrong with any of those you are considering.

I don't know about the "Too much Sigma in the M&P" statement. It sounds like an ill-defined idea that lacks specific criticism of the M&P.

IMO the M&P has great ergonomics, especially since the palm swell or lack of it can be made to fit most shooter's hands. On the other hand, I thought the trigger was only OK - nothing to get excitied about. When I first tested the trigger on an M&P I remember thinking "Well... at least it's better than a Glock..." A lot of people end up putting trigger kits in the M&Ps.

If you want a low bore axis you might want to look at the Caracal. Superior trigger, very good ergonomics, and they are cheap.

Thanks for the replies folks!

Budget - $550 MAX

Im a large man. 6'0", 280 lbs.

Im am looking at those three pistols, because of the budget and those are the ones I liked the best out of all of the ones I have handled. Glocks are reliable but feel like im holding some foreign alien object. The grip angle and over all feel of the Glocks dont do it for me. I just find for more traditional grip angle and egros of the others to be more comfortable to me.

Im leaning toward the M&P40c now, thanks! The 40c was not really ever in the running, but after comments and reading around I found that the Recoil may not be all that different for me anyways. Then the fact I can drop a 9mm barrel in it (as long as it locks up in the rear good) if I wanted to.

About trigger pull. ANY of these choices would be leagues better than that Sigma I had....;)

Oh and +1 on the XDS in 9mm. I havent seen one, do they make those yet? I know they have the XDS in 45.

Edit: Holy crap on the Caracal. You sure that thing even has a barrel?

Try a look at the Kahr CM9. It has all the advantages stated so far, and more (really nice trigger). Good luck and stay safe.

If that is a list of your pros and cons with those guns, then DEFINITELY get the S&W M&P9c!!! If your only concern is that they have too much Sigma in them, then you can put that concern to rest. First of all, the Sigma is very good in many ways, poor in a few. The M&P has all of those good qualities and replaces all of the poor qualities with fantastic qualities.

The clostest thing to a XDs in 9mm would be the S&W M&P Shiled in 9mm...and excellent gun by the way!

The XDS in 9mm is not available yet. It will be later on according the Springfield reps that I talked to last week.
