Well, I am crafting my "Good Cause Statement" to [sarcasm] offer my grovelling excuses to my betters (local PD) for why they should deign to allow my worthless carcass to carry a self-defense implement more effective than a can of food seasoning. [/sarcasm]

Anyway, I am up to three good reasons so far, but I want to somehow work in the "Mother of all Reasons"- Terrorism. Hey, if it worked for the Feds to get the USA PATRIOT Act and Homeland Security, not to mention the right to kill/imprison anyone, anywhere who might have anything to do with terrorism, then surely it will be strong enough to get little old me a CCW.

Give me some ideas on how to word it- and this is not intended to be a humorous or tongue in cheek thing, so try to keep it remotely plausible. In California we need every little bit of help to be granted permission to protect our lives.

Well you live in San Francisco, so it doesn't really matter what you put down - you're going to be denied anyway.

However if you want to make a serious go of it, I don't think incorporating a terrorism argument will get you much positive fanfare.

You can if you want, but I recommend against it. You're in SF, tell 'em you're afraid of being gay-bashed :D. You can actually do that without lying if you're straight, because somewhere around 10% of all victims of gay-bashers are mistaken for gay when they ain't! I have some research on that point somewhere...lesse...OH YA, here we go:

http://www.ninehundred.com/~equalccw/gaybash.html

THAT will give the SFPD more of a headache than just about anything, if you do go through with it :D. And there's even an off chance it'll work!

If you do this and then cite that as an attachment, copy the text and paste it into a Word or whatever file, and print from there. If you print that page, it'll leave the fingerprints to my site and you don't want that.

Another thing: for extra comedy value, copy the application and submit a copy with the SF Sheriff's office. Make sure with either or both agencies you ask for their "local policy manual" on CCW. I'd be very interested in seeing if the sheriff has finally cooked one up and what's in it :).

And THANKS. You'll learn things and develop info that we can maybe use in court later - eventually, we're going to have to do a "megasuit" with plaintiffs scattered all over the state and with AG Lockyer as the defendant (so we can challenge the law). At that point, any evidence of CCW abuse or misconduct will be allowed in court.

You know, I think that if you put down that the good cause reason you needed a permit for a self defense weapon would be to combat terrorism, it would likely be rejected rather quickly. Why? Because the chances are extremely low that you would ever be in a position to directly suffer a terroristic attack where you could use a weapon to preclude it from happening.

Think about it this way. If they won't consider normal and more more likely self protection situations where a weapon might be used to save your life or prevent serious injury, such as via robbery, rape, random acts of violence, etc., to give you a permit, then why permit you for something with only a very remote chance of happening? Strange that either way, your life is equally mortal.

Before the CHL laws in Texas, some of the ways in which it might be legal to carry would be during those times when you might be carrying large amounts of valuables or cash, such as a business owner taking cash to the bank to make a deposit. I found this odd as being able to carry a gun to protect yourself and the cash during times when you are more likely to get robbed than than to be able to protect your life at any other time. The cash is nothing compared to what I feel I am worth. I can always make more cash but can't get a new self if I am otherwise killed.
