CCW in Maryland for military?

I was reading the other posts on the subject and was wondering if anyone in Maryland has a CCW and how did the process go. I have been to packing.org and just from reading that don't know if I want to gamble $170. also I am in the military and was wondering if anyone had listed terrorist attacks as a reason? Will being military help or hurt the process?

One last thing..... I have felt for a long time that military should be armed 24/7, anyone else feel this way?

Absolutely not! Military personnel have are not paid to enforce the law and should not have any more (or less) rights while off duty than any civilian resident.

I have no anti-military bias. I served for over 21 years myself.

First- I did not say that military should be performing law enforcement
Second- while I beleive everyone should have the right to carry for personal protection we (military) need to be armed, not only are we a target for every terrorist, we are also sworn to defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic.

I kinda agree with saying that I dont think active military should automatically be able to carry concealed. I am not speaking for all military personnel, but I know of a couple joes that just would freak me out if they were allowed to carry. I think it ought to stay the way it is, where they have to apply for a ccw just like regular people. That's my .02 at least.

From what I've heard you're chances of getting a CHP in MD are slim.

As for arming the military 24/7. The military is not unique in being a target of terrorists. By definition the citizens are the ones the terrorists want to hit, that's how terrorism works. If they hit a military base in MD the populous will go hmmm, well they hit a military target so I'm cool. If they hit they local bus terminal, that causes terror.

I was in a military unit authorized concealed carry 24/7 everywhere it went. It was interesting that no real specific training was provided. That unit got a hard look when a couple members were off duty and foiled a robbery at a store. Not what the concealed carry was for and it got them exposure they didn't want or need. No they weren't in danger of being killed or harmed, they decided to stop the robbery ie. playing cop. So the concealed carry permission was dropped.

There are units that have concealed carry authorized, but they are few and typically are trained for concealed carry. I don't think the military wants to deal with the liability and training issues that would arise from arming all their personnel 24/7. I don't think the states would accept it on that scale either.

Have to disagree with you here fgr39. When was the last terrorist attack against against a domestic military target? Gee, I can't think of any. When was the last terrorist attack against military personel within the boundaries of the US? Can't think of any there either. Terrorists do not hit military targets. They hit terror targets. During Desert Storm, they didn't add any more guards on the ammo dump or base armories than were already assigned there, they placed guards around the base schools and the commisary. Those are terrorist targets.

I won't begrudge anybody the right to defend themselves, but I'm sorry. The reason you gave just dosen't hold water. I know you want your CCL, but that rationalization is not going to carry any weight.

There's a little act called "Posse Commitatus" that does not allow the military to engage enemies within the boundary of the US without the President declaring martial law. Until that happens, there is no military need for service members to go armed except in normal military guard and law enforcement activities on military installations. In times of crisis or heightened levels of security, additional troops at bases are usually issued weapons a bolster the defense of the base until such time that martial law is declared.

As far as getting a CCW in MD you need one of two things. A lot of deposit slips, with big numbers on them, proving that you regulary carry large amounts of cash. Or a crediable threat on your life.

Not That CCW would have helped. I agree having been in the milltary most guys I wouldn't trust with ccw and I don't think they should deserve special consideration. But I think every state should have vermont style ccw anyway though.
