These questions concern having work done to a concealed carry revolver, a S&W 642 in particular but any CC revolver in general. When considering having trigger, action jobs, and moon clip conversion done on a revolver used as a 24/7 carry gun what can you expect the impact to be in the following areas?

1. Any additional legal problems resulting from using a "modified" gun in a SD situation?

2. Reliability - Any impact all all? good or bad?

3. Safety - Any problems caused by a lighter trigger pull, or any related issues?

4. Anything else to consider?

Thanks.

anything to enhance reliability, function or accuracy should be ok.would avoid anything to detract from safety.no hair triggers.but a action job on a 642 to smooth I would do I would not replace springs for reliability .
In theory a good shoot is a good shoot but error to the side of caution

I wouldn't want a light trigger for SD...In the excitement of the moment you may shoot something you had no intention of shooting...Like your foot for example.
I prefer a looooong DAO trigger for SD.

I had action jobs done on both of my j-frames

shortly after purchasing them. Either one of these will be my regular CC firearm.

The gunsmith who did them noted that he would not be trying to lighten trigger pull--that doing so would decrease reliability for ignition--but that he would be smoothing the action. And that's what I got: smooth actions on both of them--but the pull on these DAO versions (340, 640) remains about 10 lbs.

The smoothing is what mattered to me: I come from a marksmanship background, where trigger awareness mattered a lot. Now, I can concentrate on the pull, not on the ramps.

I don't think have such work done increases liability, but it does create one more 'discussion' in post-event scenarios.

Smoothing the action will make the pull feel lighter than it really is, which is a good thing.

I don't see any legal issue whatsoever with having your lockwork smoothed, or having it converted to shoot moonclips.

Doesn't a lighter trigger pull usually end up with a lighter hammer strike - at least on a DA revolver? Is that an issue?
