CCW Need help deciding

I've got it narrowed down, I think, to a few. Glock guys dont be bias.

1.Colt defender new agent

2.Glock model 27

3.Taurus p40ssprl

4.ruger sp101

5.S&W model 442

Honestly, any of those would be a decent choice. How would you be carrying? IWB? OWB? Ankle, shoulder? SOB? Pocket?

Do you plan on carrying another mag? a speedloader? Do you like revolvers or Autos more?

If you want to pocket carry, then size is your primary concern.

IWB probably favors autos for their slimness

OWB, you can carry anything on your list.

Do you have a preference for caliber? Is 9mm ok for you or do you think .45 acp is the only caliber real men carry?

So, if IWB is your choice, I would get either the Glock or the Colt. Personally, I would carry the Colt and a reload, but that is my preference between the two.

If you can carry OWB, then you have to make the choice. I would probably still go with the Colt.

If you can rent all of those guns from a local range and see which you prefer. At the minimum handle each one and see how it fits you.

I havent really decided on the method of carry. Im kinda fat so IWB would probably not be my best option. I was thinkin more like coat pocket in winter and cargo short pocket in summer. I like .45 acp but would carry a 9mm.

I am a big guy as well. I carry OWB when I can have a shirt or jacket on over the gun. In the summer, when I am in T-shirt and cargo shorts, I carry my P7 and wear a button down short as a cover and leave the front open like a light jacket, or I carry a pocket Kel-tek P3AT

I carry my Glock 27 more than any of the many other handguns I have. Its pretty easy to conceal and is reliable, simple to operate under stress, holds a good number of rounds and is easily reloaded. The .40 S&W cartridge is effective with proper ammo. The gun is durable and handles sweat and humid/wet conditions well and is easliy repaired/replaced if damaged or taken as evidence. I have many more pistols and revolvers that I find more exciting but the G27 is my first choice as it stands now.

I primarily use a simple IWB holster that uses a metal clip that is designed to not come off the belt readily. I just have pants that have a little room to spare. I used to carry in the appendix position mostly when I was much heavier. I found that a OWB holster tended to bulge more when my waist was very ample. I have an ankle holster as well as a horizontal shoulder rig for it and use them sometimes.

The best improvement to my ability to carry a pistol concealed was to lose about 150lbs...Not to mention improved ability to run and fight if needed as well as lower blood pressure and cholesterol, etc. I think my eating and weight presented much more risk to my life than an assailant.

If you like 45 why not consider a Sig 220 you could probably pick up a fairly decent one for and pretty good price also you could consider a P229 you can get them in either .40 or .357 sig or even buy an extra barrel and have both. Might even be able to find one of those in PD trade in or even CPO which would be even better. Just look around check top gun supply.

well my local gun shop doesn't currently have one and I wont buy a gun i haven't had my paws on. If I held one and liked it I probably would have had it on the list but as of current I haven't held one, and haven't heard much about how they feel either.

Given your other post regarding comfortable carry options I would make that a consideration in your choice. That's good that you want to handle it first because this way you can check for comfort as well as which shoots the best for you. Choose whichever shoots best and can be carried because it does no good if you left it home.

Then get a good carry rig and training with your choice.

Colt defender very nice gun. If your only going to have one for CCW I like the J-frame .Four season CCW weapon and ease of pocket carry. Get both and your set for life with CCW. J-frame 1st Colt 2nd.

No offense, but you haven't really narrowed it down. You picked from four of the most popular action types (DA automatic, striker-fired polymer autos, DA/SA revolver, and DAO revolver), and picked top models from each category. Trying to compare them this way is sort of apples to oranges, IMO.

It would help to know more about how you intended to carry, what you expected of the gun, and what type of clothing you'll be wearing. Then it also depends to what extent you're willing to sacrifice shootability for concealability.

I really didn't intend to do that. Thanks for pointing that out though. I would just like to have one that didn't make it a pain to carry everyday of the year. If I couldn't come home in the evening empty my pockets like I do every night and it be a part of my usual attire, then I want to look elsewhere. I don't want to have to go to extra efforts to carry, if that makes any sense at all, it does in my head anyways.

Well, the most natural way to carry with the gun as part of your attire is in the pocket--all other modes of carry require holsters that must be attached with belts or straps. Out of your list, that leaves the S&W 442.

The Ruger is too heavy being all steel, the Colt, Taurus and Glock may fit in a pocket, but print badly and are hard to draw. The 442 is an excellent and very popular choice, but it does require a good deal of practice to become accurate with it.
