CCW poll in Chicago needs your vote

It looks like the auto-voting program has swamped the server:

"Yikes, wgnradio.com isn't loading right now.
The computers that run wgnradio.com are having some trouble. Usually this is just a temporary problem, so you might want to try again in a few minutes."

"Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." Einstein.
As long as Illinois continues to go anti gun and continues to make the news over mass shootings (this was the second in about a month) we'll have a good case study for the rest of us how not to do things.

Jad is right. Someone definately has an auto-voting program running. It is sad that the anti's voting isn't going to curb the violence.

Good grief. Stay on the page where they have the votes and refresh it every 5 seconds. The anti's vote jumps 30-40 per refresh. Definately a rigging going on.

Complain!

Complain politely.

Send a note to the station. After all, the public should be allowed to vote properly - not do the typical Chicago "vote today and often" bs... I just did:

Hi, this isn't a sour-grapes response, but one of concern. The John Williams' NewsClick poll is covering a very important and polarizing topic at the moment - one of carry permits for weapons in light of the NIU tragedy.

My vote is irrelevant however obvious in light of this comment - someone is running a bot that is skewing the results!

There is NO way that this many people are voting YES. The rate on the YES limit sales is growing at the rate of 40-50 new entries per page refresh. Your own site speed is suffering greatly as a result of this abuse.

What makes me mad is that we don't get to see what the public really thinks, and as of yesterday when this poll went up, it looked like the public voted 70% in favor of allowing permits - a drastic change to today's reversal!

Please go through your web logs and update the poll accordingly. I'm sure this data will be cited by WGN in the future - and probably others, it should be accurate!

Thanks in advance.

and this...

Mr. Williams,

I just sent the note below to your web producer. The situation is silly as we all would love to know what the common sentiment is, but with this activity, all we see is that the anti-gun constituency is willing to resort to writing software to stuff ballots, than to face the situation honorably.

Please follow up with your web producer. Please have the numbers corrected and report to your listeners on what happened here. Tell them that there are so few people who want to further limit our second amendment rights that they had to resort to underhanded tactics to falsely demonstrate that they are the majority.

Thank you in advance!

Update - I heard back from the producer. HIGH FIVES to them for following up quickly.

I'll have to paraphrase as I'm not on my regular computer...

They are aware the poll is excessively high and are suspicious that the ballots are being stuffed. They asked for their ISP to pull the logs to make this determination and will definitely be discussing this on their Monday program (for those in Chicago - WGN Radio between 1 and 4 - the rest, I think they stream). They are also aware that many special interest groups posted about the poll - so they expected extra hits.

Very interesting stuff, can't wait to hear results. I'm very hopeful that we're all spot on here - the poll is 70% pro carry and that the anti's had to resort to writing malware to attack the polling server... and best of all WGN actually announces it just like that!

cheers all!

they have a new poll posted today. when i looked for the results of the ccw in their recent polls archive, i couldn't find it. it looks as if it and the results have been removed.

I just finished listening to their broadcast addressing the skewed results on their radio show. They only mentioned that the results had been corrupted.

That's it. No correction. No actual results. Just, "The poll was corrupted".

Then they had a short discussion about CCW and took several callers. One caller had concerns that had a CCW holder been present, they might have accidentally hit an innocent bystander.

Hitting innocent bystanders by accident seems kind of irrellevant when you have an actual gunman determined on purposefully hitting them by INTENTIONALLY aiming at them, doesn't it?

I'm not too web savvy. Is anyone here capable of putting up a link to the broadcast? I'm not sure how one would find it, much less how to put it here.

I just went to look - and there doesn't seem to be a link. He only seems to selectively archive his shows.

Kind of lame. "corrupted" - I'd say the general populace is corrupted by sheep mentality. So frustrating - especially when the antis made the point for us.

Feel free to write the station!!!
