I'm looking for people's experiences with carrying and had to use or were about to use your right to defend yourself. I've recently gotten my permit and I'd like to learn from others. I've done a bunch of searches and I know there have been posts but I'm having a tough time finding them. Pm's if you like.

Two -- no, three -- book recommendations for you.

1) Massad Ayoob's Ayoob Files. Lots of stories about folks who defended themselves with firearms -- what happened, how they protected themselves, what tactics & equipment they used, and what happened to them afterward.

2) Robert Waters The Best Defense. Same basic thing, slightly lighter touch.

3) Since you're buying books anyway, pick up a copy of Ayoob's In the Gravest Extreme. The principles in it are what every new gun owner needs to know.

Good luck to you!

He's right about Ayoob...

'The Ayoob Files: The Book' is also a good one. Bring a strong stomach. Great book, though.
