I had purchased a SW 5906 a while back from CDNN for $299.99 and was very pleased with the police trade in. It showed very little wear (if any) and while I was talking to a rep at CDNN he told me they had just received a batch of SW 6906 9mm that they would be selling for $329 when they finally listed them in their catalog. I asked if they had them in stock and what did he think of the quality etc etc. I then got on gunbroker web sight and checked what many were trying to sell the SW 6906 for. The prices were all over the place with some asking over $750 for the pistol. I figured OK if I get the 6906 and for some reason do not like the thing I can always sell it and get my money back so I ordered one.

In the mean time I had been wanting to try out an AK but all the ones I had looked at had problems I did not want to deal with. The Keibs looked cool but to heavy and to much money for an AK IMO.

Centerfire systems had one I was interested in for around $430 that was Bulgarian with chrome lined barrel etc etc page 2 of their catalog. I went ahead and ordered it knowing that AKs around here sell for around 500 for a POJ made by little monkeys some place. The Centerfire AK was modified already to accept 30 round mags; originally it accepted only single stack and had a synthetic stock.

Pistol came in Wednesday and the AK came in on Friday so off to the gun range I went to pick up both.

When I arrived there was a boarder patrol guy and his son at the range and we were all inside talking about things in general. He had just given the range owner an SKS in trade for some stuff. The owner does not like the SKS because he never cleans a gun and this would be a rental gun for him!! I knew this so after 20 minutes of paperwork for the pistol and AK we made a deal on the SKS. The SKS finish was some of the best bluing I have ever seen on a Norinco. I honestly do believe it was once used by the Chinese Military white glove parades. The original wood stock and gas tube came with the rifle but it was presently sporting a side fold synthetic stock.

I had brought some 9mm for the pistol and 60 rounds 7.62x39 for the AK to try out. The SW 6906 with three loaded mags was as expected. Night 3 dot sights barrel looked new and she shot for me 3 inches low and 1.5 inches left at 15 yards; easy fix...but no time that day.

Went to the rifle range and with a 12 by 14 inch target I was not on paper with the AK at 27 yards or 25 meters!!

Was getting late and I was starving so I headed back into town for something to eat. I was going a tad bit fast..... and..... the only time in several years there was a Highway patrol officer..... golly gee whiz he was quick with the radar!! Captured me going 71 mph in a 55. Did the window down and hands on the steering wheel thingy as he approached the car. Drivers License and insurance requested and he said he had me going on radar at 71....good to know his radar was accurate!!

He looked at the License and CHL permit and asked me if I had a weapon in the car. I told him " No Sir I have 5 weapons" while I smiled. We talked about what I had in the car and he was interested in the AK so I got out and opened the trunk and let him inspect. I returned to the car and was issued a warning ticket for to fast in a 55 mph zone. Whew!!

Next day back to the range with the cruise control set!! Wanted to see if I could get the AK and the SKS sighted in. The AK was the first one I worked on and finally got it down to 4 or 5 MOA at 27 yards.....Front sight IMO is canted approximately 3 to 5 degrees to the left but at least the barrel was pressed in straight.....GuRRRRRR.. internally the gun is like new. The front sight is pinned so I need to remove and try to center it the way it should have been done from the manufacture. Jeez how hard could it be to do it right with a jig at the factory??!!!!

The SKS after a short time was putting 3 shots inside a 2" dot with some rounds touching if I did my part. This was done with the Yugo brass cased corrosive ammo from Aimsurplus.

Both the AK and the SKS had forward gas tubes which were almost impossible to remove due to bad fitting when installing the new synthetic stocks and new gas tubes. The AKs forward release for the gas tube was so stiff that I had to use a cleaning kit handle and it's slot to get the release up.....everything was tight and like new or glued together with Cosmo! Finally on both weapons and several hours work I got them apart. After a little dremel work the gas tubes now can be removed without using 12 paid gorillas.

Bottom Line:
6906 I like a lot and believe to be a good price
LEO's have always been honest and good with me...but I treat them with respect and as if they are friends not gestapo
Both my SKSs are shooters
AK I really have a problem with so many things about the weapon that I am not in love with it. Yes they were made for Russian peasants with little or no experience with a rifle..made to shoot with little or no care..... surprised with the short sight radius the military versions are as accurate as some say?..Until a few years ago even the best Russian aircraft had terrible fit and finish...but they worked as does the AK.:barf:

Depending on being able to center the front sight and get the POA and POI down to some kind of acceptable level for me I may just hang it on a wall for a conversation piece.:D.......Or put it at the gun range for sale at $650....Well it does look cool!!

You do realize that the gas deflector on the ak, is set at that angle to push the barrell down and to the left, as it normally climbs up and to the right. I didn't know that until I looked it up om google. that pin is set at that angle for a reason, "sorry if you already knew this". I did find the gun toi be adequatelly manufactured, "it depends on who put it together that day".But I di find what looked like a paperclip type spring on the floor after re assembling it the 3d time. I like to take stuff apart so I can understand what went wrong if something does. The part is the retainer for the safety, "they spared no expense. LOL. the gun is press fitted together "I guess for field breakdown". But I can see several parts that can easily just come off it you had it in your trunk and it banged around for a while. The mags lock in very tight, "still wobble" but they aren't about to fall out. All in all I think it can lay down a lot of fire in a relativelly short time. Which is what they designed it to do. Given a machine shop, there is no telling what modifications one could make to this weapon, it's a tin can with a trigger and a magazine. Haven't fired it yet, but can'r see why it wouldn't work. You could easily adjust it with a hammer.

Hey gym thanks for the info. What is canted left are the front sight post. It is not easily detected until you sight it in. I have seen several AKs that are much much worse for sure but!!!!!!!........It still bugs me. When I received the weapon my primary concern was barrel not cocked off (out of alignment) a typical 3 or 5 degrees due to not seating properly during pressing. The weapon looks new inside and out with barrel and BCG innards etc etc all look new or non used. My big problem with the rifle is POI verses POA and the shot groups it produces ( canted front sight?). Again new barrel and it has not been " shot in" but I did not expect it to be so bad on MOA measurements. I still think if I can get the front sight post totally square some of the problems will rectify themselves. Maybe I am wishful thinking/ hoping? Anyway maybe someone will chime in on a good way of kicking the front sight post a couple of degrees to the right and then I will determine if it is a keeper? I hate to take a hammer and do a field fix on it but at this point I would not even attempt popping pigs with such a inaccurate weapon.
