CDNN S&W 5906 or 6906

Good evening folks.
Anyone purchased either of these firearms from CDNN either the S&W 5906 or the 6906? I know both firearms are well worth the money but what experiences have you guys had with CDNN?? Both firearms are good to very good, i believe the 5906 is $299 and the 6906 is $329 and then they offer select on both firearms for $30 more. Select means comes with S&W box don't know if the condition is any better.

Anyone purchased one of these from cdnn? What kind of shape??

I am also considering one of these pistols and would like to know if there is much of a difference between the recoil of the two.
 
I picked up 3 5906's from Wideners out of Tennesee. $275 each. Mechanically, they seem to be 90%+. Finish had some minor wear, light scratches. The plastic grips were destroyed though, on all 3. Not sure how. Will need replacing. Looked like they were just ground down with a dremel.

Not sure about the CDNN, but they are probably from the same source/police tradein.
 
Sorry Jim I have never bought a used gun from them. I have however bought several new guns from them and have always been happy with the results.

I wonder if for your extra select money they would be willing to email you a couple of photos of the one they select for you.

I will have to call them and see what diff select is from not, other than a case..

decisions, decisions...!! Do I want one of these Smith's or do I wanna use the money to begin my AR build...??? !!

Thor- I am sure the recoil is easier to handle with the 5906, it is about 10 oz heavier than the 6906, but being 9mm I am sure both are very easy to manage...
 
I bought one of each from CDNN last Summer. Both were in very good to fine condition cosmetically and excellent mechanically--the 6906 looked virtually new inside. I enjoy shooting both guns but the 5906 just feels so right to me. If I could only keep one, it would be the 5906. I wouldn't hesitate to reccomend CDNN based on my experience.
 
I have both guns, though not from CDNN: the recoil is mild for both, but the 6906 is an alloy-framed carry gun while the 5906 is a steel-framed duty gun that I, personally, consign to HD and target use. If I could have only one semi-auto, I would choose the 6906 out of all the guns I've owned: perfect carry and range gun that is no slouch for HD. If I could have only one of the two, I'd choose the 5906: more fun to shoot for long periods, more capacity for HD, slightly longer barrel for improved accuracy.
 
I have a 5906 from CDNN. It was in great condition -- seemed pretty much new but for a few scratches, and I didn't pay for a hand select. It is dead nuts reliable, and is the most substantial feeling pistol I have ever fired (and I personally own 30+ pistols). Well, maybe my GP100 feels *as* substantial, but that would be the only one.

Recoil is laughably low compared to other service 9's. And all service 9's have pretty sedate recoil imo. And the trigger... whoa. What in the world? At some point, smith actually knew how to make a decent autoloader trigger? What in the world happened? ;) Seriously, the trigger is easily on the par with the best Sig, H&K, or FN. Although I would argue better. It seems to have a shorter length of pull, a shorter reset than my Sig 226, FNX-9, and Beretta 92 clone, for example.

In conclusion -- hell yes, buy one. It is perhaps the finest all steel service 9mm you can buy. They don't make 'em like this anymore.

And you have reminded me that I should go buy a few more before CDNN runs out of them.
 
I am planning on getting the gun for my girlfriend, and I am trying to figure out if there is enough of a difference in recoil to justify the extra weight of the 5906.

I also plan to purchase mine from CDNN, so any extra info on their used guns would be great.
 
If you buy the GF a 5906, you'll wind up with it. I have carried a 6906 daily for 18 years. Over 10K rounds with one failure, my son limp-wristed it when he was six and it caught the empty on the way out. Get one, she'll like it better. CDNN is one of the best wholesalers in the business. If you aren't happy, they'll make it right. Bought from them as an FFL (Pre 1995) and still do, although I can't get guns shipped to the house anymore. Joe
 
I agree, if it's for the GF go 6906: my wife likes the grip on the 6906 much more than the 5906.

Honestly, they're both large 9mm's. Any large 9mm is going to have very minimal recoil. If the difference in recoil between a 5906 and 6906 would actually bother her, then I'd suggest you should be getting her something like a beretta cheetah (full size double stack 380) instead.

But she is never going to carry that 5906 anywhere, if that's your goal. It is one heavy ass gun. Makes a full size 1911 feel light. God, *I'd* never carry my 5906 anywhere unless it was my only gun, and if it was my only gun and I had no other money, I'd trade it for something lighter.
 
Sorry I have only bought magazines for my 6906 from them. I bought my 6906 new in 1989, it went to S&W for a recall, other than that it has been the best pistol purchase ever, dead on accurate and malfunction free after many thousands of rounds, it also looks as nice as the day I bought, due to propper cleanings.

It's good to hear CDNN is good to work with, I think I'll go for the 6906.

On second thought, maybe I should buy the 5906 first so when it's too heavy for her I can buy both :evil:

CDNN is a great company. Fast shipping and good customer service. As for the 5909/6906 - get one of each! Can't say enough good things about them. If they were still made today, they would cost the same as a new Sig. (heh, maybe even more if we're talking today's Sigs).
 
CDNN is a class operation. Bought a 6906 from them about 6 months ago and it was in better than advertised condition. Looked like it had hardly been carried at all, no wear or scratches. Bore and mag well were pristine. Needed a good cleaning, but all new additions get that, anyway.

FWIW, they do enough business that they have many FFL's on file so all I had to do was tell them who to ship to. Couldn't be simpler.
 
I never got to shoot the 5906, But I did buy 6906 and gave it to my dad. That gun, is a great shooter. Like the feel of it, And the recoil isn't bad at all. It has fed factory rounds and reloaded rounds without one hiccup what so ever.

I bought it used at the time but she functions perfectly. Would I buy it again? Yes.

If you're located near Huntsville, AL, JC's has a box of grips that look they're 5906 / 6906 grips for I think $12 ea. I only glanced at them so I could be wrong, but they're definitely Smith grips.

FWIW, I've seen quite a few Sig and S&W police guns like this. It looks to me like seatbelt buckle wear. I bought a Sig 226 with the right grip that was obviously constantly rubbing on the SB buckle when seated.
