I keep thinking that the ability to shoot pistol and rifle cartridges in a break action shot gun might be a good thing.

Chaszel has made adapters in interesting calibers up to 18 inches long and some folks claim pretty good accuracy.

The .327 Magnum insert for a .410 especially appealed to me and then I read this on their site;

"Please Note: Not all shotguns are the same! While the majority of them are capable of handling high pressure rounds, some are NOT. Only use these rounds in shotguns that are compatible. I recommend on any shotgun to test the first shot in a vice while out of harms way and to always wear eye and ear protection. If after testing you see the primer punctured in the round discontinue using this round and use a less powerful round. These high pressure rounds include: 45-70 gov., 357 Mag Shotgun Adapters, 327 Federal, 44 Mag, and 22 Hornet. Please always be safe and aware.
Thank you for reading."

Now elsewhere I have read that some break actions breech faces can not take the higher pressure rounds and that H&R for instance even made different receivers for their regular shotguns and guns either switch barrel of dedicated rifles.

Has anyone compiled a list of OKEY-DOKEY GOOD TO GO break actions shotguns?

As it happens my .410 is a Winchester Model 37 (not an 37A or Japanese made) and I am loath to stump test a family heirloom and chance busting it up and turning it into scrap!

In .410 they currently have nothing in stock but have offered .327, .32 S&W Long, and .32ACP (each seperately though the .327 handles all) 9x19mm, .380, and .38 Special. They say they are trying to get caught up on current orders and that .410 is the hardest to make and they don't plan to do so before fall, but I am on the call list.

They do have some of the shorter adaptors (2&3/4 inch) in 12 gauge in stock and had a good list in 20 and a couple in 16... then Covid and the panic and they have little in stock. I must say a rifled 11 or 18 inch barrel in a 20 or 12 for .357 magnum has some appeal as does the .30-30 or 7.62 x39 if the break action can handle them.

I sure wouldn't use anything that might damage my shotguns. I understand the appeal but accuracy would be an issue even if it were safe. Maybe a low pressure pistol cartridge but then wouldn't a Sabot slug be better? Just my thoughts. Plenty guys do it. I would think about a lighter gauge insert.
