I've had my 1500 chargemaster for a couple of years and love it. It has always been consistent and right on the money. Last night I loaded 5 rounds of ammo at one powder weight, 5 more at another then shut my machine off. Came back about an hour later and turned it on. It read 1.5 gr. Turned it off and back on and got a "0" reading..decided to calibrate to make sure. It does the 50 g fine and when it calls for the 100, I place it on and I get an ERROR reading everytime. I turn it off and turn it back on and I get a weight reading with no pan on the platen. Sometimes its 1 gr sometimes as much as 87 gr with nothing on the platen. Sometimes its "0" like it should be. I've tried more than 10 times to calibrate but I always get the ERROR reading at the 100g point. Suggestions?

After unplugging, turn it upside down and bang softly on the side of the unit with the heel of your hand. Sounds as though you may have a stick of powder stuck under or around the platen. Should come right out. If it doesn't, don't hesitate to call RCBS. They have impecable customer service. They may want you to send it back.
BTW do you check your scale with weights or against a balance beam to check for accuracy? You should.

Be Well,
Joe's

Absolutely check the scale with my rcbs 5-0-5. Not the most expensive or best balance beam, but sure does a good job when I use it.

Great advice. Turned it upside down, tapped on it and there in the palm of my hand were two sticks of 4831. Shot some compressed air all around and Voila!!! Working like a champ now. Thanks a lot Joe's.
