Anyone have any experience with the Charles Daly 'Field-Tactical' pump action shotguns? They have an 18.5" barrel, hold six rounds, has 3" chamber, synthetic stocks, & a front bead. I'm asking as Big 5 Sporting Goods have them on sale for $199. Where are they made? How would they compare to a Remington 870?

It is not an 870 copy.

They are made in Turkey by Hatsan, I believe. It is the same shotgun as the Legacy Sports Int Escort Pump. They are both basically the same shotgun as the HK FP6 with a different style receiver. The FP6 accessories should fit.

I popped into a Big 5 a couple of hours after I posted my question, while I was out running some errands. They actually had people IN the gun department, & they seemed to know what they were doing! The Chas. Daly 'Tactical' didn't look half bad, & it did look as though the barrel ring was located so as to enable a long barrel to be fitted, unlike with the eight shot guns were the ring is further forward. The front bead is actually a sight on a ramp, but there's no rear sight.

I bought that gun from CDNN for about $160. It is a good shooter, relatively smooth action. All in all, for the buck I don't think you can beat it.

The CD Tactical is made in Turkey, but not by Hatsan, and is absolutely not the same shotgun as the Legacy Escort. They are different guns produced from different components, by different manufacturers.

Now that you are here to clear things up tells us what Turkish manufacture makes the CD pump? What tube extension and after market accessories will fit it? I was told by some customer that the HK FP6 accessories will fit the CD pump.

This is important because customs shy away from shotguns that are hard to find accessories for and firearms they know little about. The fact is most advise against buying the CD shotguns because they know so little about them and for not knowing if parts & accessories are available. That is something you should keep in mind when looking to market a new shotgun. It would be good idea if you would post some detailed information on some of the popular Firearm forums about your line of firearms or on your website. It would certainly clear up a lot of misinformation and surely increase sales.

It is good that your shotguns accept Rem cokes. Why not require that the Turkish manufacture thread the Mag tube with the same thread pattern as the 870 so 870 tube extensions will fit.....ect

OK, first of all, the CD Tactical is manufactured for us in Turkey by Akkar.

Secondly, we do not instruct our maker to thread the mag tube to any particular dimension, as adding a mag extension to the gun here in the US is technically a violation of the law.

It is illegal to assemble a shotgun from imported parts that would not otherwise be importable in its modified configuration. Shotguns cannot be imported into the US with magazine capacities in excess of 5 rounds as they do not meet BATF's "sporting criteria". If you were to add a mag extension that increased the capacity, you would be modifying the gun into a configuration that would not be importable. That is a no-no.

The only way to legally modify an imported shotgun to accept more than 5 rounds would be to manufacture some of the components here in the US. In the regulations there is a list of 20 parts from which you cannot use more than 10 which are imported. (This same regulation applies to semi-auto rifles.)

These regs can be somewhat confusing, but I assure you, this is the law. Several manufacturers ignore it, but some day BATF will catch up with them. I would not want to be in their shoes when they do.

And better still to hear from the president of the company. I blame your presence here, sir, for forcing me to buy a second CD pistol. My wife is probably out to get you. Don't worry, she's a fairly lousy shot.

It is too bad that CD stopped with the HP pistol. I have one of those also and it is a fine pistol, and probably the best bang (literally) for the buck available in a HP pistol.

I am well aware of the 922r law for imported shotguns. No one follows it when it comes to tube extensions and round count, not even the ATF. The earlier FN SLP imported shotguns is a prime example. It is not illegal to have your shotguns made to be compatible with other shotguns' after market accessories. In fact it is good business and will surely boost popularity and sales.

The availability of parts and after market accessories weighs heavy on the consumer's decision when considering a new firearm purchase.
