I'm a waterfowl kinda guy. Growing up on the Texas coast will do that to you. Yeah, it's cold, yeah it's wet, but I've been an addict for 38 years. Anyhow, I shoot a camo M500 Mossy that I've had for a little over a decade. Before that, I had an OLD Mossy that I picked up to replace my old twice pipe when the steel shot law came about. Didn't wanna ruin my twice pipe with that stuff. I have a Winchester M1400 I use on dove, but it's got a 2 3/4 chamber and I shoot three inch on water fowl.

I'd considered 3 1/2 inch guns when I got a lease that had geese on it a few years ago. However, I discovered Federal Tungsten/Iron loads. They're half way affordable compared to other magic loads and they out perform anything I've ever seen in lead, even! So, I was happy again with three inch. However, that M1400 autoloader sure takes the sting out of recoil and I'd often thought of replacing the Mossy with an autoloader, but most autoloaders are rather high dollar. I don't wanna take an expensive gun into a salt marsh. Well, then a couple years ago I see these Charles Daly autoloaders at Walmart for three hundred bucks! I just wonder about them, how good they are, if they have any problems. I prefer my Mossy's tang safety beening a southpaw shooter, but I could live with the crossbolt style. I'd really prefer it in camo like the old Mossy, though, and have only seen the ones at Wallyworld in black.

Really don't need this thing, I reckon. I like the old Mossy, just beats the heck out of me on a good morning of duck shooting.

I haven't heard much, positive or negative, about the new Charles Daly semi shotguns.

I know that at one time their O/Us were built by Miroku of Japan, the same people that make the Browning Citori and were highly thought of. I know that doesn't help much but at one time, they were very good guns.

You may want to look into the used market for a Remington 11-87 or Franchi 612. I believe both come in a camo model and have very good reputations. They also won't break the bank in the mean time.
