Anyone got a Remington/Biakal SPR 453 auto in camo? I'm just wondering if the camo covers everything? I saw a pic of one with full mossy oak, but then on the Remington site it says "camo stock and fore end". :scrutiny:

I've read a lot of good stuff about this gun. If I could get one in full camo in the 300-400 dollar range, I might be tempted to retire the old Mossberg. I prefer autoloaders and this one has a lot of good stuff written about it on the net. I mean, yeah, I don't NEED camo, but then again, for marsh hunting and salt spray and what not, I sorta do. It's a tough finish for hard hunting. So don't go giving me no BS about wood and blued steel being better. I like camo finishes for a waterfowl gun.

from what i have found, the SPR-453 has never been offered in camo in the U.S. our lucky neighbors to the north get them, as well as the russians, but none have been imported to America. they do show up on gunbroker from time to time.

here's a non-stock pic of some canadian models:

even if you can't get your hands on a camo model, you will LOVE this gun. trust me, i have 0 complaints. if you have any other questions, let me know!

If it's the same Baikal that EAA sold a few yrs. ago and it sounds the same with the "tunable gas system", I wouldn't touch it with a 10 ft. pole. It takes several shots and a lot of turning on the gas nut to get it to work right with the loads you are using at the time. Then next time you are out with it you wonder,,,,,,"what did I have it tuned for last time I shot it? Then if you ever get it to fire 1 oz. trap loads and cycle most of the time and leave it set there and fire a 3 1/2" mag. out of it, well I don't know what would happen. IMO=junk.

terry, that is absolutely NOT true. if you follow the directions in the owners manual that say to not adjust the gas nut and shoot at least 100 1 and 1/4 oz. shells through it to break it in. once broken in, i have shot down to 1 oz shells and up to 3" magnums WITHOUT adjusting the gas. it is a wonderful feature to have though. how many auto-loading shotguns can shoot a 3.5" shell, and still cycle a 7/8 oz subsonic load? i'm thinking very few. if you are concerned about where the gas system is set, the stock location is clearly marked, and it takes no more than 30 seconds to adjust the system.

please don't come in here calling a gun with which you have never had experience, "junk". i own the gun, and i know several other people who do with absolutely no complaints. IMO, one of the best guns on the market for the price.

From what I've read about it, you don't have to touch the gas adjuster unless you want to shoot light loads. For me, 100 percent of the shooting is going to be 3" mag steel. I don't think I'll ever bother with 3.5" and I have guns for dove and such that I don't intend to sell. This would replace my Mossy, which I'll keep too since I don't sell guns anymore.:D

sctigerjeep; just relaying my/our experience with one of these shotguns that my son-in-law has. Did you think I made this up? Just my own personal opinion. Maybe he just got a lemon or something.

Looking at the pix, it's got a crossbolt safety which most guns do, but my Mossy don't and it's got a loading gate/elevator which most guns have, but my Mossy's elevator is normally up and out of the way. One can, though it's a bit of a pain, hold the load gate/elevator up with the off hand while reloading so as to minimize the chance of the round popping back under the gate jamming the works, which has happened to me more'n once with an 870.

Not buying this gun would solve my delima, but I sure like autos and this thing shoots all manor of 12 gauge. Perhaps I'll put it off, though. Maybe they'll start importing the camo models in the future. I'd really prefer a camo model.

I went to Academy this morning, and saw/held one firsthand, so they're definitely in stock.

It felt like a good gun, and the camo finish looks nice. I'm thinking hard about getting one. :D
